Current Priorities

Issue

Speeding within Frome continues to be a priority. Frome Neighbourhood Team are regularly meeting with Community Speed Watch Schemes to assist with conducting high-visibility speeding checks throughout the villages around Frome. The aim is to deter speeding through the residential areas and to educate repeat offenders.

The Neighbourhood Team work closely with the Community Speed Watch groups who conduct regular speeding checks in their community.

How Community Speed Watch works:

A Community Speed Watch can be set up in any village, small town, or urban area, governed by either a 20, 30 or 40 miles per hour speed limit.

A team of local residents who are willing to volunteer a small amount of time each week are trained and issued with speed detection equipment to monitor speeds.

Vehicles observed speeding will be sent a warning letter along with advice to help change their driving behaviour.

Further action will be taken by the police against persistent and high end speed offenders as well as targeting individual locations.

Join Community Speed Watch:

Action

It’s encouraging to see a growing interest from the public in establishing new Community Speed Watch groups in their local areas. More residents are stepping forward to take an active role in promoting road safety.
Community Speed Watch is powered by dedicated local volunteers who commit a small amount of time each week. These individuals are trained and equipped with speed detection devices to monitor vehicle speeds, helping to raise awareness and encourage safer driving.
The Neighbourhood Team works closely with these volunteer groups, offering support and guidance to ensure their efforts are both effective and valued. Together, we are fostering a safer environment for everyone on the roads.

Issue

Recent reports indicate a rise in agricultural trailer thefts within our rural communities. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and assess their security measures to help prevent such incidents. Below are key security tips to protect your trailer:

  • Record and Photograph Your Trailer: Keep a record of your trailer’s serial number and take clear photographs. These will be invaluable for publicity and potential recovery if theft occurs. Note any distinguishing damage or repairs to aid identification. Store this information on immobilise.com.
  • Mark Your Trailer: Apply forensic security marking systems such as SELECTA DNA or DATATAG. Additionally, consider marking multiple areas, such as painting your postcode or farm name prominently to deter theft.
  • Use Secure Locking Devices: Invest in a high-quality wheel clamp or hitch lock to secure your trailer.
  • Anchor Your Equipment: Chain items together and secure them to a fixed structure or ground anchor using a high-rated CEN padlock and chain.
  • Remove Wheels for Long-Term Storage: If your trailer will be unused for an extended period, remove the wheels and store them separately from the trailer itself.
Recommended Security Products

We advise using security products that meet British Standards and and looking for those with Sold Secure or Secured by Design accreditation. These certifications ensure that products have been rigorously tested against theft attempts. You can find approved security solutions at:

???? Sold Secure
???? Secured by Design

By implementing these security measures, we can help safeguard our rural communities against trailer theft. Stay alert and protect your assets!

Action

Agricultural trailer thefts remain a concern across the force area, and we urge our farming communities to stay vigilant and review their security measures.
