Current Priorities

Issue

Reports of vehicles parking on pavements in Wells and surrounding villages is being made to the Wells neighbourhood Police team on a regular basis.  Parking on pavements causes a number of problems to the local community;

    • It is a danger to pedestrians who may have to walk out onto the road to get by, especially if they have wheelchairs or pushchairs.
    • It damages the infrastructure by the weight of the vehicles on the paving slabs and also creating trip hazards.
    • It causes traffic flow issues by narrowing an already tight road which leads to traffic chaos.

    The neighbourhood team are asking motorists to be mindful when parking,

Action

The Wells Beat Team continues to carry out proactive patrols across rural areas, focusing on vehicles parked inconsiderately or in potentially dangerous locations.
Where appropriate, our officers have been engaging directly with drivers — offering words of advice and distributing  leaflets to raise awareness about the risks and consequences of unsafe parking.
While our priority is to educate and encourage responsible behaviour, we will not hesitate to enforce the law where offences are identified and grounds exist. This balanced approach helps ensure the safety of all road users and protects access for emergency services, agricultural vehicles, and local residents.
We appreciate the community’s support in helping us keep our rural roads safe and accessible for everyone.
Please report any inconsiderate parking to us on 101 or online.
