Current Priorities
Issue
The local neighbourhood team have received numerous reports of anti-social behaviour within Cale Park. We have seen an increase in e-scooters and mopeds being used illegally which has caused alarm and distress to members of the public within Cale Park. We have also received reports of graffiti which has caused criminal damage to the skate ramps.
Action
Wincanton Town Neighbourhood Officers continued to monitor this priority as we are still receiving reports from our local communities, property owners and retail facilities.
The team are still responding to these reports and will continue to identify any individuals who are causing harassment, alarm and distress to our communities.
Patrols will continue at different times ensuring that we are engaging with as many people as possible.
Issue
Wincanton Neighbourhood Team are noticing and receiving reports around youths using E-Scooters in public places.
I would like to remind people that Private e-scooters can only be used legally on private land with the landowner’s permission. They are not legal on any public highway, bridleway or pathway.
Electric scooters are classified as Private Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs), essentially a motor vehicle which needs insurance. If the scooter is privately owned, some offences such as riding while under the influence of drink or drugs will result in immediate enforcement where the subject will be arrested and the scooter seized without a warning.
We do like to stop and educate individuals with e-scooters but depending on how they have been used will determine whether or not it is suitable for a warning or seizure.
