Current Priorities

Issue

Targeting the Supply and Use of Controlled Drugs in the areas of Highbridge including housing estates and the surrounding main roads.

High Visibility patrols to deter as well as specific covert patrols by local officers to target key offenders. In addition crime prevention work with residents and partner agencies conducted by officers in person and on social media.

This is a long term issue that needs to be addressed. Conducted alongside pro-active Policing powers such as Stop Search should enable a quicker resolution to the issue and therefore start to have an effect on the community.

This is an issue across many areas of Avon and Somerset. The impact on the quality of life to local residents is significant.

This is an ongoing issue that the Neighbourhood Policing Team will continuously review every two weeks.

Action

School Engagement and Patrols – There is no current information about Children being involved in the supply of drugs. However, preventative work should be completed to disrupt the risk of exploitation to make Highbridge an undesirable area for Drug Suppliers to operate in. Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers will be visible at school times to engage with Parents, Staff and other stakeholders.

Issue

Identify and Disrupt prolific offenders who partake in acquisitive crime against retailers in the Burnham-on-Sea area.

Engage with local retailers who are repeat victims of retail related offences such as public order and theft. Intervene positively with offenders using powers of arrest, search and dispersal to prevent offending and target harden Burnham.

Retail theft has been a long term issue in Burnham. A sudden increase in offending and the seriousness of offending in the summer saw a successful operation where 4 prolific offenders were charged with 20 offences.

Theft is a national target with the Policing Retail Crime Action Plan and the NPCC Lead for Retail Theft stating it "can have a significant impact on victims, which is why we are committed to doing all we can to reduce thefts and pursue offenders, especially those prolific and habitual offenders who cause misery within the community".

This is an ongoing issue that the Neighbourhood Policing Team will continuously review every two weeks through the Intelligence and Tasking Process.

Action

Partnership Working – Take a joint problem solving approach alongside our partners such as Somerset Council, Education, Health and Housing to reduce the likelihood of re-offending.

Issue

Our local neighbourhood team works alongside our constabulary's specialist Anti-social Behaviour team, as well as other local authority services and charities, to work with those involved in low level offending, from warning letters to education and support, right through to those involved in more persistent offending with higher end interventions, such as Community Protection Notices and Community Behavioural Orders that can include arrestable conditions.
