Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) can have a devastating impact on individuals as well as our local community, and everyone has the right to feel safe where they live, and we all have apart to play in this.

We always encourage our communities to report persistent Anti Social Behaviour in your areas, either by calling us on 101, using our website to report things online, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Our local neighbourhood teams work alongside our constabulary’s specialist anti-social behaviour team, as well as other local authority services and charities, to work with those involved in low level offending. This ranges from warning letters to education and support. We also work with those involved in more persistent offending with higher end interventions, such as Community Protection Notices and Community Behavioural Orders that can include arrestable conditions. High visibility patrols are conducted by our local teams at every opportunity to provide reassurance to both the wider community and also to detect and deter anti-social behaviour in your area.

Issue

In response to concerns raised by our local community around excessive speed around schools your Neighbourhood Policing Team are engaging in partnership working to resolve this issue and ensure the safety of the community.

Road Safety is a critical aspect of community policing, and the impact of failures by road users to treat it with the upmost care and respect can have a devastating impact on individuals as well as our local community, we always encourage our communities to report issues relating to road safety in your areas, either by calling us on 101 or using our website to report things online: Raise a community speed concern | Avon and Somerset Police.

Our local neighbourhood teams work alongside our constabulary’s specialist Roads Policing, Speed Enforcement and Road Safety Teams, as well as local authority services including Somerset Highways, targeting road users who pose the greatest risk to others on the roads.

We also work closely with our vast network of Community Speedwatch groups,  who are teams of local residents that are willing to volunteer a small amount of time each week and are trained and issued with speed detection equipment to monitor speeds, with an emphasis on the offences collectively known as the ‘Fatal Five’:

  • Excess speed
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt
  • Driver distraction, such as using a mobile phone at the wheel
  • Drink and drug driving
  • Careless driving

Road users who commit one of those offences are significantly more likely to be involved in a fatal collision than those who do not, and through education and enforcement, we are working to raise awareness of the Fatal Five and encourage behaviour change in a bid to prevent serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads.

We also have the Road Safety Fund that can help community programmes and schools prevent injuries caused by road traffic incidents, learn more by visiting our website: https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/apply/police-community-trust/road-safety-fund/ Or to find out if there is a Community SpeedWatch Scheme in your area, or request to set one up, email [email protected].
