Allerdale Police recently conducted a community survey for the Workington area and surrounding villages and wish to thank those who took the time to complete this.

One of the main issues raised was youth related anti-social behaviour in the Seaton area. Please be reassured that your local officers are aware of this issue and have been proactively patrolling the area over the last couple of weeks and will continue to do so. A number of youths have already been identified as a result.

Our local officers will continue to address these issues over the coming weeks, conducting hi visibility patrols in the specific areas, engaging with the local community and taking steps to identify any person contributing to this issue.

Officers are regularly on dedicated High-visibility patrols to target areas with disproportionately high levels of serious violence and anti-social behaviour.

Ongoing liaison with local businesses, providing crime prevention advice, reassurance and to identify the main offenders

Drop ins at the local library to speak with local residents about any issues.

WE DID:
On 22nd May 2025 stop searched 4 youths appearing to cause damage to the old Poundstretcher building on Murray Road, Workington. A crime remains under investigation for this offence.

WE DID:
Liaised with the local authority regarding reports of youths entering the derelict old Trades Hall. The building has been secured.

WE DID:
Liaised via the Local Focus Hub with Remedi and The Well Communities to highlight areas of concern for ASB to enable them to conduct engagement and intervention in these areas. Some of these areas included the town centre, Hall Park, Hunters Drive, Lingbeck Park and Meadow vale in Seaton. Work is ongoing in these areas

WE DID:
On 3rd May 2025 arrested and charged prolific offender Christopher McKenzie with common assault and a public order offence. NPT applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order in order to address his behaviour and were successful. This has been publicised on Allerdale NPT social media posts.

WE DID:
During the month of May, conducted school talks in Northside and St Patricks School, Workington around ASB and Hate Crime

WE DID:
Following reports of drug related ASB from residents in the Harcourt/Milburn Street area of Workington, engagement with local residents and the Parish Councillor conducted a street safe and continue to conduct high visibility patrols in the area.

WE DID:
Working in partnership with Allerdale Local Focus Hub conducted a survey in relation to The Line, Workington for feedback since the project concluded. The majority of responses were expressing appreciation of the area and its improvements. Some responses highlighted issues in relation to off road bikes, damage, litter and ASB/Drugs all of which the local policing team are aware of and addressing.

WE DID:
Held Hate Crime Focus Groups in several locations in Allerdale including two in Workington and one Maryport in order to gain an insight into the experiences by Victims and those affected by such crimes. The objective of such is to review the feedback and implement any improvements to services offered and to break down the barriers to reporting such crimes. These Focus Groups are ongoing.

Issue

Shoplifting and offences in Workington Town Centre

Action

WE DID:
Charged and remanded a 17 year old youth with x3 shoplifting offences, Arson with intent and Taking a Vehicle without consent. The youth appeared in court the following day, 12th May and was remanded in youth detention until 30th May 2025.

WE DID:
Arrested a male on two occasions for offences of theft by shoplifting and common assault on incidents which occurred in Greggs, Murray Road, Workington in April and May 2025. This male remains on police bail with conditions and an update will be provided following a review of the investigation.

WE DID:

Issue

YOU SAID: Reports of youths involved in acquisitive crime, going equipped to steal and carrying weapons in the Workington area.

Action

WE DID: This is a priority the team are to address over the coming weeks and months with the following:-

High visibility and plain clothes patrols to be carried out in the areas identified as hotspot locations.

Presence to be advertised via social media for public reassurance.

Work with partner agencies to address issues long term.

Positive action will be taken to deter offenders from committing offences and to proactively deal with those identified as committing offences or being involved.

WE DID:
On Saturday 12th April 2025 arrested a male on Cloffocks Car Park for attempt theft of a motor vehicle and drunk in charge. The male made off from officers but was detained at the location and blew 71 on a road side breath test. The male has been subsequently bailed until the end of July for further enquiries.

WE DID:
On Saturday 12th April 2025 arrested and interviewed a male for theft of motor vehicle the previous night form Barncroft Avenue in Seaton. The male has been subsequently bailed for further enquiries.

WE DID:
On Friday 18th April 2025 a 17 year old male was stop searched by officers in the area of New Bridge Road, Workington and found to be in possession of a Cannabis. He is to be dealt with via the Youth Justice Service.

WE DID:
On 11th May 2025 arrested, charged and remanded a 17 year old youth with x3 shoplifting offences, Arson with intent and Taking a Vehicle without consent. The youth appeared in court the following day and was remanded in youth detention until 30th May 2025.

Continue to provide hi visibility patrols at prevalent times to address this issue and deal proactively with those responsible whilst supporting victims of crime

WE DID:
Following reports of off road bikes on the line between Meadow Vale and Lingbeck park, conducted high visibility patrols. Off road bikes is an ongoing issue for all areas and one which the team will seek to address over the coming months. PCSO Snell conducted a walkabout in the Seaton area it the local councillor to discuss issues in the area.

WE DID: Assist in setting up Workington Pub watch Scheme with landlords and partner agencies to reduce alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour.

To enable members to communicate with each other about suspicious behaviour and those engaging in violent behaviour or ongoing incidents

WE DID:
On 13th May 2025 Allerdale NPT held the first Workington Pub Watch Meeting at Bees Knees in Workington. The new scheme was well received with some premises signing up and a Chair nominated. Work is ongoing to progress the project long term.
