Youth ASB Egremont Town Centre and Castle grounds

Priority raised 27 April 2025, still current as detailed in PACT surveys, information from partner agencies and local council and residents

Action

WE DID
Online video meeting with local parish Councils and Egremont Castle volunteer keepers. Informed of current patrols and interactions with local children. Also advised of crime prevention measures for the castle grounds such as lighting.

- between 27/04/2025 - 24/06/2025 - a total of 8 hours dedicated foot patrol has been conducted
- 22.05.20205 - 8 youths identified as causing ASB, Officers have carried out home visits and ASB intervention and awareness work
- 24.06.2025 - 2 youths have been referred to Prevent and Deter which is run by the Youth Justice service.
- 04.06.2025 - Conducted joint visit with Environmental Health to assess insecure building the Youths are attending
- 05.06.2025 - 4 youths identified as causing issues for local shop owners, Officers have carried out home visits and dealt with these appropriately for the crime of Harassment
22.06.2025- report of group of youths at castle causing ASB police attended, no youths at location

June 25th - Owner of the market shop visited and spoken to by Egremont CBO. Mr Mehdi informed the officer that there had been a good improvement and reduction in incidents. Mr Mehdi confirmed that things are improving and said that they were now 85% better and he had nothing new to report.

July 2nd - Walk about involving local Councillor, NPT Insp & Sgt, to discuss current issues in Egremont town centre and Castle grounds.

July 6th - Officers 2241 & 1932 - High Vis patrol in Castle grounds. Large group of youths spoken to who were all polite and responsibly enjoying the grounds, but a small group of males youths were shouting abuse at Police, unable to ID. Facebook post created.

July 6th - CP-20250706-0135 refers to smashing glass heard coming from Castle Mount care home, NPT officers attended and located two youths who admitted being inside, they were then taken home and spoken to in-front of parents. IYC forms to be submitted.

July 7th - NPT officers carried out patrols in Castle Grounds, small group of older teenagers just sat chatting, having come from the Egremont youth club. no issues reported and suitable advice given re enjoying the grounds responsibly.
Officers visited and spoke with Mr Mehdi at Egremont Store, he states that after CBO 1932 and I visited the store at the weekend, shortly afterwards a young male with bright blond hair threw a sweet into the shop when walking by then ran away. Enquiries currently being made.

5 August 2025
NPT officers attended the home address of a youth identified as being involved in ASB in the town. An ASB booklet was completed in the company of the mother followed by suitable/appropriate education and advice in regards to behaviour.

4 August 2025
NPT officers carried out HV foot patrol of the old care home - full perimeter check showed it has now been suitably secured by the owner - all doors and windows have been boarded and made secure. Officers also carried out a patrol of the castle grounds and spoke to a small group of boys who were sitting and chatting.

16 July 2025
NPT officers carried out HV foot patrol in area of the Castle, small group of youths sitting on benches and some throwing a rugby ball. no issues identified.
