Current Priorities
Issue
1.Retail crime – targeting repeat offenders.
2.Road Safety – targeting e-scooter riders.
3.Drug supply – targeting those involved in the supply and distribution of controlled substances.
Action
1.Officers to conduct regular patrols in the town centre and surrounding areas. Regular engagement visits will be conducted with retail premises within the Long Eaton area to provide reassurance and offer crime prevention advice. Engagement with key stakeholders such as local businesses and shop owners. Review police data to identify any individuals involved and take robust action to reduce the number of shop theft offences.
2.Educate members of the public around the law of e-scooters. High visibility patrols to be conducted to identify and take positive action against riders of e-scooters. This will include seizing the e-scooter using powers under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988. There is no longer any requirement in Derbyshire to warn the rider. E-scooters will be seized, and the rider reported for the offences accordingly. Once seized, there is no option of the rider / owner claiming the e-scooter back. 3.Tackling drug supply and distribution within our communities. We are focusing on identifying and disrupting those involved in the sale and movement of illegal drugs, working closely with local residents and partner agencies. We will act on intelligence received from the public to target offenders and locations of concern. Our aim is to reduce the harm caused by drug activity, improve public confidence, and make our neighbourhoods safer for everyone.
