Current Priorities

Issue

1. Retail Crime – Targeting Repeat Offenders
2. Drug Supply – Disrupting the Supply and Distribution of Controlled Substances
3. Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) – Youth ASB Around McDonald's and Tesco

Action

1. We will continue to prioritise the prevention and disruption of retail crime in Long Eaton town centre and its surrounding areas. Officers will conduct patrols and make regular engagement visits to retail premises to provide reassurance and deliver crime prevention advice. We will work closely with key stakeholders, including store managers and business owners. Intelligence from incident reports and police data will be reviewed regularly to identify repeat offenders, with robust enforcement action taken to prevent escalation. One of these approaches is reviewing crimes held by LPU officers on their workload. Notably, PC Dickinson and PCSO Cottingham are achieving excellent results in detecting and charging key offenders.
2. We are actively targeting individuals and networks involved in the supply and movement of illegal drugs within our communities. Our strategy focuses on gathering and acting on local intelligence, supported by proactive enforcement operations targeting both street-level and mid-level dealers. Recent activity has led to multiple seizures and arrests related to the supply of cannabis, heroin, crack cocaine, and cocaine. These efforts will continue, with further operations planned. Our overarching aim is to reduce the harm caused by drug activity, improve public confidence, and create safer neighbourhoods. A local operation has been launched to tackle drug lines operating in Long Eaton from outside the county.
3. There has been a rise in youth-related ASB impacting customers and staff at McDonald’s and Tesco in Long Eaton. We have now created a Problem Management Plan (PMP) and this priority area has been incorporated into Operation SHANGO. Multiple crimes have already been recorded and are under investigation. We are also exploring the routine use of Section 34 dispersal powers to address emerging incidents promptly. Our aim is to reassure the public, support local businesses, and reduce ongoing disruption caused by a minority of persistent offenders.
