Update: 24 January 2025 - January Update

The Local Neighbourhood Team had another fantastic result in court this week in achieving another partial closure order on an address which has caused significant issues for local residents in recent times. A real partnership effort to achieve, and hopefully a step in the right direction to provide reassurance and stability to the neighbouring residents as well as safeguarding the property and occupant themselves. As we have previously written, these are fantastic tools for us and rely heavily on our community intelligence. If you see something that doesn't look right, please look to contact us on our telephone 101 service, website, or report anonymously on crime stoppers.

This week also was the local Community Area Partnership Meeting for Camel Valley area, and it was a really great opportunity to meet with all the local parish level representatives across the area and see what is going on across the sector.

Update: 30 September 2024 - September Update

As we come into the Autumn, we reflect on our busy summer. Our priorities will remain the same as we enter September, with an increased interest in our drugs and anti-social behaviour priorities to reflect the wishes of our communities. We have been at many events across the summer, and it was so good to see so many of you. Our neighbourhood team are looking at setting up new and innovative surgeries to access your communities in the coming weeks so please keep an eye on our social media pages and this website for details of those as they are published. As ever we could not do the work we do without information from you all, so please get in touch by the appropriate channels.

Issue

Drugs

Drugs are directly linked to both violence and ASB in our community, and clearly contribute towards these other two priorities. We are working hard to build our intelligence picture to and reduce drug related crimes on our streets. This is a national issue, identified by local problems, and have a real community impact. We rely heavily upon community based intelligence, and what you see could be the missing piece to our puzzle. So please either report anonymously to Crime Stoppers, or directly to Devon and Cornwall Police.

Update: 30 September 2024 - September Update

As we come into the Autumn, we reflect on our busy summer. Our priorities will remain the same as we enter September, with an increased interest in our drugs and anti-social behaviour priorities to reflect the wishes of our communities. We have been really proactive with drugs warrants and closure orders of late, and we will continue to protect vulnerable people and pursue offenders bringing them to justice in these areas. We will continue to listen to your concerns as we continue to work hard in these areas. As ever we could not do the work we do without information from you all, so please get in touch by the appropriate channels.

Issue

Shoplifting and Retail Crime

Entering the next quarter, it has come through consolidation and review that our priorities be reviewed accordingly. If you follow the updates within our website, newsletter, alert system, and social media pages you will have seen we have been focussing hard on drugs and anti-social behaviour within Bodmin Sector. We now look to add to our priorities by adapting our vision and really focus on Retail Crime and Shoplifting.

Update: 24 January 2025 - January Update

A really busy week for our Local Neighbourhood team whereby that have been active within town making arrests for people wanted on warrant, for outstanding shopliftings, as well as routine patrols. I was lucky enough to meet with the Camel Valley Community Area Partnership, confirming our priorities will remain unchanged for the first quarter of the year and received some wonderful feedback from interactions with officers in the local community. The highlight of the week, however, was arresting and remanding in custody a prolific offender across the sector and achieving a Criminal Behaviour Order that will be in place for 3 years! This was a great joint effort of Patrol officers stamina to deal with repeat offences, the collation and preparation for court by the Neighbourhood Team and then presentation of the application by our ASB Case Team in the court room itself. A real team effort, and a fantastic result. A real asset to safeguarding the local community we serve, particularly the retail sector.

Update: 23 October 2024 - October Update

Last week (14th October) saw the return of Safer Business Action Week across the country, and as a result we were engaging with our communities and business owners. It is clear that there is a lack of reporting of this crime type, and we want to reinvigorate trust and public confidence in reporting to us so we can look to escalate your concerns and pursue offenders as a result. There is a clear link between this crime type and our other two priorities of drugs and anti-social behaviour and therefore we will be really focussing to make a difference in our 3 main retail centres, as well as further afield.

On 21st October Insp Stonehill attended the Camel Valley Area Partnership Meeting and shared the news of this new priority which was welcomed by partners and constituents alike. We are committed to working hard with partners to target harden our retail centres with crime prevention advice, regular beat patrols, and a better intelligence partnership with business owners to tackle this issue.
