Current Priorities

Issue

Adult Anti social behaviour and drug issues.

Unfortunately there are no areas that are not affected by drug supply and use. We will act on any information that is supplied to us however before a Warrant can be actioned we need a flow of information (more than one piece), this can be in relation to a person an address or a vehicle.  Some of the adults we deal with will be a problem in the town outer areas, drunk / abusive / shoplifting and we aim to deal with this as reported.

08/04/2025 - One of our prolific offenders was arrested for criminal damage to a vehicle on Western Road, Charged.  Possession of a weapon, Charged.

18/03/2025 - Two of our main ASB adults have been issued with CBW (Community behaviour warnings) a letter which is issued to them with conditions (ie. not to consume alcohol in public places, be abusive etc).  Should they breach any of the conditions the process would move to serve a CBN (Community behaviour notice) arrest for any breach.

W/e 07/03/2025 An incident occurred where a football was kicked unintentionally towards a member of public causing them to fall and break a wrist.  A witness has stated it was not intentional, however the male was spoken too as an older male who was openly drinking was kicking a ball around in a car park.  Intelligence will build on individuals helping us to produce ASB letters or a CPW (Community Protection Warnng).

Issue

Anti social behaviour in Ivybridge town

Building positive relationships with our young residents in the South Hams.

Visits to Schools, pre schools, Clubs and generally when out on patrols.

Ongoing engagement with youths around the town and areas in the evenings.

Friday can be our problem night due to Youth night, although this is a positive for the young people it is also a freedom night and they are allowed to be outside of the club.  This in turn can cause issues between large groups.

08/04/2025 - Intermittent ASB in small pockets, considering the Easter holidays it may be people are away on holiday.

18/03/2025 - Continued aggravation from our small group of youths at The Co-op and Ivybridge Brewing Company.  Liaising with the brewing company to see if we can educate the youths by inviting them into the premises to see what they do to help / employ their service users and understand their vulnerabilities.

07/03/2025 - Message sent through to our team regarding a rock being thrown at a property at Lydford Close, Ivybridge.  Home owner very concerned, managed to see some bikes ride off down the street, no persons seen up close.

This has been an intermittent ongoing MO with a group of lads who we regularly have dealings.

Issue

Shoplifting

08/04/2025 - No recent thefts reported.

07/03/2025 - No reports within the town in the last week recorded.

28/02/2025 - Low reports but still occurring and under investigation.

19/02/2025 - Co-op, Glanvilles Mill suffered a large hit by three suspects unknown most likely organised crime. In general, low reports, a local male who is a regular shoplifter was arrested at the weekend for fail to appear at court for a previous theft.

05/02/2025 - We are seeing a slight rise after a spate, a person of interest is currently under investigation.

15/01/2025  -  Shoplifting is currently low, with two prolific shoplifters currently out of the picture it has definitely had a good result in local stores.  Poundland is still seeing a small amount.

08/12/2024 - Some really positive results with prolific shoplifters over the last few weeks with excellent intelligence being reported.  Intelligence however small can make a huge difference to offending.

19/11/2024 - Reports still coming through of shoplifting but it does appear a very slight decrease.  Positive action has been taken with prolific offenders and ongoing enquiries on recent reports.

W/e 01/11/2024 - No thefts reported or aware of

W/e 18/10/2024 - this week was safer business week and we had colleagues over from Totnes, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth on foot patrol in and around the town talking to the stores and offering advice and listening to their concerns.

W/e 05/10/2024 Ongoing work with the stores, enquiries are being made to hold a meeting with area managers / managers for the stores for advice and strategies.

Prolific shoplifter detained this week and all goods recovered, enquiries are ongoing at this time.  Patrol feet on the ground and around the town.

Target hardening on offenders and liaising with our local stores to continue, pro active arrests to offenders caught.

The local stores, Co-op and Tesco have started to employ Security guards intermittently.  We will continue to work on prolific offenders.

Ongoing investigations with some of our prolific offenders and positive identifications.  We still suffer as every area will do with thefts involving persons from out of the area.

Our current priority is to reduce the amount of Alcohol shoplifting and reduce ASB in Ivybridge.  This is by pro-active patrols / body worn video and working with the Housing association where our main problem has stemmed from.

09/07/2024 - Shoplifting continues to be an intermittent problem, The Co-op seems to be a constant target and over the last weekend the company employed security for four days, one shoplifter caught.

22/06/2024 - Ongoing issues, background work going on at this time.

19/05/2024 - 2 known offenders have been arrested for theft offences and enquiries are ongoing at this time. Retail staff, police and public to carry on working together to deter further offending.

27/04/2024  Prolific offenders still targeting the local supermarkets, ongoing enquiries and strategies work in progress.

Prolific offenders will be very brazen in their attempts and thefts, public vigilance is key to receiving reports.

Ongoing problems in our local supermarkets / stores of theft of high value items such as meat joints, spirits, crates of alcohol.

Most thefts are of items that can be sold on quickly and we urge the public to report of suspicious behaviour to the staff so they can contact us.  We would not advise people to take their own course of action or put themselves in any danger.
