Current Priorities

Issue

Road Safety

We work within the communities to improve road safety by pursuing offenders and by taking preventative measures with our local partners to reduce casualties on West Devon's road networks.

The neighbourhood team work closely with community speed watch volunteers who conduct activity on a regular basis.

Action

Update: 05 January 2025 - Update Jan 2025

For 2025 we will be doing more road policing events ranging from un-insured or un-taxed vehicles, to speeding and defective vehicle. We are hoping to soon take delivery of some new equipment to help us with this. We are very thankful to the Community Speed Watch teams across West Devon for their help making the roads across the area safer.

Issue

Drugs

We aim to deal swiftly and robustly to drug related activity reported within our neighbourhoods. To achieve this we require the support of our residents by reporting any concerns or suspicious activity to us.
Reports can be made at Report | Devon & Cornwall Police (devon-cornwall.police.uk)

Update: 05 January 2025 - Update Jan 2025

During 2024 we executed several successful drug warrants and we will continue to develop our understanding of this issue where it occurs and target those that not only deal drugs but those that drive whilst unfit through drug use.

All information is treated in strict confidence and we urge anybody with information to pass this on so we can continue tackle this issue.

Issue

Anti Social Behaviour

We intend to act proportionately but robustly to support communities affected by anti social behaviour. We achieve this working in partnership with our safer communities partnership, social housing providers and local authority.

Update: 05 January 2025 - update Jan 2025

Throughout 2024 we have utilised ASB legislation to hand out numerous ASB letters and Community Protection Notices whereby offenders are told what they have done wrong and what they need to do or avoid doing in the future. If breached the individual can be fined or if persistent breaches occur they can end up in court or a Criminal Behaviour Order can be sought which if breached can lead to a prison sentence.

We have successfully been granted these orders leading to individuals being sentenced to lengthy prison sentences.

we will continue to target the areas and individuals involved i ASB in conjunction with our partners to ensure West Devon remains a pleasant place to live.
