Current Priorities

Issue

Road safety

In order to reduce death and injuries on the roads around Devon and Cornwall we will work with specialist Police colleagues, the Vision Zero team, the public and other Partners to identify areas reported as concerns for dangerous driving.

We will involve educational premises and youth organisations to highlight ways that young people can become more aware of their own road safety.

We will carry out speed operations as a Neighbourhood Team and encourage the Community to adopt a Community Speed Watch program.

Action

Update: 08 February 2025 - Dawlish College Engagement

Update: 08 January 2025 - Road Safety around Schools

We have responded to concerns expressed by local schools around road safety around schools. Local Neighbourhood teams have engaged with the Police and Crime Commissioner who has been supported by Vision Zero Road Safety Team and Road Casualty Reduction teams. We will look to engage with local councillors, Devon County Council Highways and Teignbridge Council community safety manager to form best practice guidance to improve safety for all areas going forwards in 2025.

Issue

Drugs supply and county lines

The supply of illegal drugs has a hugely detrimental impact on local communities. It can directly lead to serious violence, drug related ASB, drug related health issues and exploitation of young and vulnerable people.

We are focused on developing intelligence, acting on information, conducting warrants, making arrests and conducting searches and seizures.

At Teignmouth police station we have both the South Devon pro-active unit, who solely deal with drug dealing, and the South Devon no excuses team who deal with drug driving.

If you have any information on drug dealing please contact us at Home | Devon & Cornwall Police (devon-cornwall.police.uk) or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

If you see it happening please 999

Action

Update: 08 February 2025 - Drugs Disruptions

Teignbridge NPT have conducted S23 Misuse of Drugs warrants with South Devon Proactive Unit and Force Support Group at properties in Teignbridge locating drugs and viable firearms in February 2025. We have also made proactive stops of known drug dealers in Teignmouth and Dawlish causing further disruption.

Update: 08 January 2025 - Drugs Warrants

We have executed several positive drugs warrants under S23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act in 2024; with a cannabis grow linked to large scale OCGs and cocaine supplier being disrupted in Dawlish recently and arrests made in relation to drugs supply lines from London and Liverpool in Teignmouth and Chudleigh respectively.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour

Persistent and severe anti-social behaviour can have a serious detrimental impact on a person’s quality of life.

We are committed to dealing with ASB to help make our community a safe and a welcoming place to live.

During the summer months we will be focusing on youth ASB with the town centre and seafront

We welcome any information in relation to ASB via at www.dc.police.uk/contact or www.dc.police.uk/webchat

or via crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

You can also report ASB direct to Teignbridge council at Report anti social behaviour - Teignbridge District Council

Action

Update: 08 January 2025 - Safeguarding communities from serious violence and antisocial behaviour

We will be continuing to target problem individuals and groups in hotspot areas. In the run up to summer, the Neighbourhood Support Team will be involved in preventative patrols in hotspot locations and we will also utilise our dispersal powers under Section 35 of the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014, where people can be arrested if they fail to disperse. We are also engaging with Town Councils to improve CCTV to be able to deal with crime retrospectively. Persons who engage in serious violence, and those carrying weapons and drugs will continue to be targeted by stop and searches where grounds exist.

Our partner agencies have helped in issuing Community Protection Notices and other interventions where people are causing local ASB and neighbourhood problems.

We have taken action engaging with children who have been involved in anti-social behaviour in town centres and we have made several arrests in relation to offences committed and engaged with schools around challenging behaviours and in multi agency meetings for support at home.
