Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team: Tackling Illegal Riders and Off-Road Nuisance Head-On
Shildon’s Neighbourhood Policing Team has placed the issue of illegal road use and off-road motorcycle nuisance firmly at the top of its agenda, responding to ongoing concerns raised by the local community.
This priority reflects the team’s continued dedication to keeping Shildon safe, peaceful, and enjoyable for all who live and work here. Illegal riding not only disrupts daily life but also poses a serious risk to public safety—something the team is determined to address head-on.
By making this a key focus, the team is sending a clear and confident message: reckless and anti-social behaviour on Shildon’s roads and open spaces will not be overlooked. The commitment to community wellbeing remains at the heart of everything the team stands for.

Action

Proactive intelligence led patrols and enforcement activity to target off road bike users and perpetrators of anti social behaviour. Links with local partners to identify repeat offenders and issuing of Section 59 notices.

Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team: Standing Strong Against Retail Crime
Reducing retail crime remains a key priority for the Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team, as part of an ongoing commitment to support local businesses and protect the vibrancy of the town’s high street.
Retail crime not only affects shop owners and staff—it impacts the wider community by threatening the security and sustainability of local trade. The policing team recognises the crucial role these businesses play in the life of the town and is determined to ensure they can operate in a safe and secure environment.
By making this issue a priority, the team reinforces its message that theft, abuse, and criminality in retail settings will not be tolerated. Shildon NPT is dedicated to building stronger links with businesses and maintaining a visible, reassuring presence in the areas that matter most.

Action

4 repeat offenders identified in the last month, all arrested, charged and bailed and businesses updated. We maintain strong links with local businesses and the shop watch scheme.

Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team: Tackling Youth-Related Anti-Social Behaviour
Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team has made youth-related anti-social behaviour a key policing priority, in direct response to concerns raised by the local community.
While the vast majority of young people contribute positively to the town, a small number continue to engage in behaviour that causes disruption, distress, and damage to public confidence. The team recognises the lasting impact this can have on residents, businesses, and public spaces.
To tackle this issue effectively, Shildon NPT works closely with Durham County Council, local housing providers, youth services, and a range of partner agencies. Through this multi-agency approach, we aim to identify issues early, offer support where appropriate, and take firm action when necessary.
This joined-up strategy allows us to not only respond to incidents but also address the underlying causes—ensuring that intervention, prevention, and enforcement go hand in hand.
By prioritising this issue, the team reaffirms its commitment to building a safer, stronger community where public spaces are respected, and all residents feel heard, supported, and secure.

Action

Targetted patrols and issuing of Misc 312 to juveniles who are acting anti-socially. This is an escalation procedure in conjunction with the council ASB T
