ASB / Youth related crime
Licensing checks
Rural crime
School engagement
Theft of motor vehicles

Action

£1000s of pounds of stolen farm machinery was recovered in Sedgefield following joint work between Durham's and North Yorkshire's Rural teams.

In winter of 2024, a prolific criminal was arrested and convicted following extensive investigations into a spurt of burglaries which were targeted at rural farms. He remains in prison.

A group of youths carried out community payback earlier this year, where they collected litter and planted trees following an arson.

Several ASB referrals have also been made to the council for numerous youths for various types of ASB.

A child has also been issued with an acceptable behavior contract that covers both County Durham and Cleveland following several reports of ASB.

NPT have been working with licensing teams to ensure that pubs in Sedgefield have been complying with the terms of their licenses. One premises has had the terms of their license updated to ensure stricter terms.

The NPT have achieved their goal of increasing school engagement and have successfully delivered a range of presentations across all schools within our beat. This includes talks around internet safety, online bullying, emergency services days, road safety, student parking initiatives as well as Knife crime and sextortion talks for our older students and many more!

Issue

Large groups of youths gathering in parks can be intimidating and cause a nuisance for others.

Action

We continually conduct patrols around hotspots, alongside neighborhood wardens. When issues arise, we liaise with Hardwick Park Rangers and local schools to help find an effective solution. During our school visits, we also provide ASB talks to students, so they understand the impact of ASB.

Issue

Despite what people think, shoplifting is NOT a victimless crime. Your beat team is committed to tackling thefts, working alongside Sainsburys & CO-OP and bringing shoplifters to justice. We would like to thank the public for helping our enquiries by responding to our media appeals , and of course staff & security helping us ensure these people are put before a court. We couldn't do it without you!

Action

PC Ward has spent 100s of hours compiling statements, CCTV & interviews into a case for a prolific shoplifter who saw Sedgefield as a target. This case is still ongoing so we cant say too much, but we will keep you updated!

Issue

Rurali is Durham's response to rural crime. PCSO Sophie is your rural SPOC, responsible for working alongside other police forces to tackle cross-boarder criminals and keeping our farmers connected. Rural crime is often overlooked, but we know just how big of an impact it has on our rural community, so it is definitely one of our priorities!

Action

If your a local farmer and want to find our more about our farmwatch scheme, please contact Sophie to find out more

Issue

Over the last couple of weeks PCSOs have received reports of ASB, particularly around the Winterton Estate and Knotty Hill Golf course.

Action

30141 and 30634 have identified a number of youth suspects responsible, all of which who have had a home visit and dealt with through a combination of ASB referrals to our colleagues at Durham County Council, Restorative Justice (in the form of apology letters to victims) as well as out-of-court disposals. As the NPT, we aim to take a firm but fair approach with ASB. Our Primary aim to educate young people, and teach them to take responsibility for their actions, and understand the impact they have on the community around us. Officers have also increased high visibility patrols in the area.
