Current Priorities
Issue
Anti-social use of vehicles (predominantly unregistered off-road bikes) is an issue in the area - New Kyo, Annfield Plain, Catchgate, Dipton & Tanfield. Frequently uninsured and unroadworthy, the illegal use of such vehicles creates a risk of harm to the public and to the rider.
Action
- Community Protection Warnings have been issued to addresses where unregistered off-road motorbikes are known to be operated from.
- Warning notices issued to houses of suspected individuals using off road bikes.
- Four off road bikes have been seized from Annfield Plain and Dipton that have been causing a nuisance to residents.
- Intelligence building is taking place to identify where these vehicles are being stored/used from to target these individuals, by using community information and links.
Issue
Individuals who are causing asb from their own or others premises, linked to drug use within - New Kyo & Annfield Plain.
Action
- Ongoing targeted patrols to deter incidents.
- Court orders issued to the main suspects.
- Working alongside partner agencies such as private landlords and Durham County Council ASB officers to conduct home visits and tackle offenders.
- Building up intelligence through community links to obtain warrants and target individuals.
- One property referred to Selective Licensing team within Durham County Council.
Issue
High levels of shoplifting within Co-Op Burnopfield.
Action
- Patrols of the store to deter theft.
- Ongoing work to identify repeat offenders.
- Ongoing arrest attempts for identified suspects.
- One suspect has been interviewed and charged.
- Another prolific suspect has been arrested and remanded into custody.
Issue
Issues with speeding vehicles within areas surrounding Stanley, such as; New Kyo, Annfield Plain, Catchgate, Harelaw, Dipton, Burnopfield & Tanfield.
Action
- Community Speedwatch has been completed in areas such as; Flint Hill, White-le-Head, New Kyo, Catchgate and Burnopfield.
- The speed camera safety van has also been out throughout the past months in areas such as New Kyo, Annfield Plain, Dipton and Tanfield.
- There is ongoing work by Durham County Council (alongside the Police) to introduce traffic calming measures on Loud Bank, Greencroft.
- Plans for a Community Speedwatch Group for the Loud Bank, Greencroft until traffic calming measures are in place. Liaising with The Croft Community School after School holidays.
