Current Priorities
Issue
Members of the public have raised concerns about violence within Braintree, Witham and Halstead town centres.
Action
Neighbourhood Policing Team officers have used live facial recognition, uniformed officer patrols and have enforced Public Space Protection Orders to prevent violent crime offences and address anti-social behaviour. These activities take place at times when we know crime is most likely to happen and in places with high footfall. We regularly patrol with the Braintree Community Safety Partnership and community safety officers from Braintree District Council. We keep people updated about this work through the Essex Police website, the Braintree District Facebook Page, the Braintree edition of our weekly email newsletter and through releases to the local media.
Issue
Members of the public have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and minor offences within town centres and local communities caused by or involving young people and cars.
Action
Neighbourhood Policing Team officers have worked with our Community Safety Partnership colleagues to create a Public Spaces Protection Order to prevent and target car crusing. We have deployed uniformed officers to patrol Braintree town centre and we've also done focused patrols in other areas as a result of local information reported to us by the public and enhanced by our crime analysts. These have included night time patrols.
Issue
Members of the public have raised concerns about speeding and car cruising.
Action
Work continues to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads through the proactive deployment of speed detection patrols in known speeding hotspots. Our Special Constables also work with our Community Speed Watch volunteers and the Safer Essex Roads Partnership who conduct speed monitoring and enforcement. These checks are directly informed by public concerns in specific roads.
To tackle car cruising events, we are running an operation which uses community information about events being organised to prevent the events taking place. We will take robust action if anti-social behaviour is reported.
Upcoming Events
Let's Talk Witham
Officers from your community policing team will be on hand to listen to your concerns about crime or antisocial behaviour, where you live or work. We can discuss solutions to the problems you raise, and where needed, work with our local partners to resolve ongoing issues. And if it's something we already know about, we can talk about what we’re doing to address it. It’s important that you talk to us about the things that are causing you concern in your community. If we have a better understanding of what’s happening, we can work to fix it.
So come and talk to us.
If you can’t make it this time, remember you can contact us using our digital 101 service on our website.
Please note that the event may be cancelled at short notice due to operational demands. If this is the case, we will let you know as soon as we can by posting on the district Facebook and Twitter pages.
