North Baddesley, Nursling & Rownhams, Chilworth and Valley Park.

The beat is covered by the Romsey Neighbourhood Policing team, assisted by special constables who are passionate about reducing crime and ASB, protecting vulnerable people and targeting those who commit crime. You can influence local priorities by attending a beat surgery or public meeting, by email or calling 101.

Current Priorities

Issue

The wider Test Valley rural area has been subjected to a spate of thefts by organised criminals who are looking to steal high value items from Victims in harder to reach rural communities.
The response to these crimes is being managed by our Rural team officers identifying crime trends and focusing effort to maximise evidence to gather convictions against prolific offenders.

Action

Patrols, reassurance and crime prevention advice by target hardening Victims.
The response to these crimes is being managed by our Test Valley Rural team and CID identifying crime trends and focusing effort to maximise Police evidence to gather convictions against prolific offenders.

Issue

There has been a marked increase in volume shoplifting being carried out by prolific offenders often from outside the Romsey East area. This is blighting our shops and communities with regular crime funding drug use and criminality.

Action

Romsey Neighbourhoods team have instigated streamlined processes for gathering best evidence from local shops who often fall victim to this offence. This has improve confidence and reporting.
Prolific offenders have been sent to court and convicted for these offences. One recently (Leigh McLaughlin) received a considerable custodial sentence for her involvement in thefts from the Nursling COOP.
Many others have been convicted for other offences as a result of the hard work of the Romsey East beat team.
This work continues to make Romsey East a hazardous place for retail thieves to operate in.

Issue

Youths in Test Valley are increasingly being used by adult criminals to deal or use drugs. This places them in danger and adversely affects community cohesion.

Action

Test Valley Beat officers are gathering information and seeking to disrupt the gangs who coordinate this coercive abuse of children. This is done through directed patrols of risk areas, building rapport with local youths so they are confident in confiding in local officers. Providing crime prevention and education with schools and partner groups. Acting on intelligence to reduce risk to the community.
