All the areas of Nettlestone, Seaview, Brading, St Helens, Bembridge, Havenstreet, Haylands and Ashey parishes lie on the North East edge of the Island, which provide enjoyment to visitors throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn. Visitors can also travel on the steam train located at Havenstreet. Visitors can also travel on Island line to Brading.

Brading is a small rural town alongside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Isle of Wight. It is proud of its strong community spirit, its hospitality to visitors to its historic sites and buildings, pleasant downland countryside and seaward wildlife sanctuary. Brading Roman Villa is one of the finest Romano-British archaeological sites in the UK.

Bembridge is a village and located on the easternmost point of the Isle of Wight. Bembridge is home to some of the Islands wealthiest residents.

The population of Seaview and Nettlestone Villages are mostly in the ‘retired’ age group and an important feature is that the proportion of second homes is one of the highest on the Island. Many of the second homes belong to the sailing community and are let throughout the summer months. This means that during the winter the streets become deserted but with a great increase during July and August especially during Regatta week

This corner of the island has a microclimate which encourages shrubs to bloom nearly all year round. Wildlife includes red squirrel colonies, badgers, foxes and a wide variety of sea birds and waders, including herons, egrets and grebes to name a few. These birds can be viewed at the Hersey Nature Reserve on the Duver

Issue

Our top 3 Local Priorities set by you are;

-To sustain reductions in Anti-Social Behaviour
-To target and disrupt Drug Use and Supply
-To target and reduce the Anti-Social use of vehicles (including speeding and parking)

Action

How are we tackling your concerns?

-Operation Spider is designed to reduce Anti-Social behaviour by targeting the root causes, diverting young people into meaningful provisions and working in partnership to sustain reductions by addressing education, health and social concerns. We have seen a 49% reduction in ASB between 2021 and 2024 from Operation Spider and continue to work hard to maintain this reduction.

-Operation Antidote is our response to target and reduce Drug Use and Supply. We are working with partners in Education, Health, Housing and Youth Justice to address root causes and to educate/divert vulnerable people from drug use. We have increased both visible and unmarked patrols to target ‘Hot Spots’ for drug use and supply utilising powers or stop and account and stop and search to disrupt and bring offenders to justice.

-Operation Sidlaw is our response to the Anti-Social use of vehicles. We have been increasing patrols to target locations and enforce the Road Traffic Act. We have been dealing with Noise, Construction and use and moving road traffic offences whilst also utilising Section 59 notices to prevent future Anti-Social vehicle use. We are delivering education inputs and working with schools to address road safety outside school sites.
