Current Priorities

Issue

Vulnerable Individuals

Action

Southcoates Officers are working closely with partner agencies in relation to a number of vulnerable individuals that have resulted in a large volume of calls being made.

Officers are supporting those identified as a result of a number of calls for service and due to family members visiting the station.

Officers are working closely with multiagency partners to look at the most appropriate way to safeguard the individuals and where necessary, how best to deal with them for any offences that are being committed by them.

As it stands in August 2025, we are in the process of dealing with 2 nominals who are actively targeting a vulnerable male and we will continue to ensure that he is safeguarded and attempt to mitigate any risk that may arise with the male.

This will continue to be a priority for the ward area for the foreseeable future.

Issue

Increase in Shop Thefts

Action

The Southcoates ward has had a slight increase recently in shop thefts which is causing an issue to local businesses and to the residents who work in these stores.

Officers are regularly viewing reported offences to see if we can identify those responsible to allow a prompt and effective response which may result in arrests being made.

This is particularly the case when it comes to those offenders that are prolific and well known to officers that are likely to continue to offend unless interrupted by officers.

Of note, the Southcoates ward councilors have recently funded the DISC APP which is an application whereby local stores have access to the names and photos of the most prolific offenders within the area that are most likely to target their stores. This will allow for an increased in reports that the stores are able to name those responsible for the offences.

August 2025:
The vast majority of shops within the Southcoates Ward are now signed up and we are seeing an increase in Southcoates stores using the application including the instant messaging function. This application is still a work in progress on the ward to ensure it is frequently used however as it stands we are receiving positive feedback from stores.
