Current Priorities
Issue
Antisocial behaviour - General.
Action
The primary individuals linked to ongoing antisocial behaviour (ASB) in this area are a well-known group of local youths. Most recently, they have been suspected of trespassing at Wellington Paddocks and causing ASB during late-night hours. Although patrols have attended, no crimes have been formally reported at this time.
Details of the group and their associated ASB and criminal activity are outlined in the North Deal ward report. Close collaboration is ongoing with Walmer Town Council, where the importance of reporting incidents has been emphasised. Residents have been encouraged to report all occurrences, as even minor details contribute to intelligence-led policing and help ensure effective deployment of patrols in the most affected areas.
Issue
Alcohol.
Action
In relation to alcohol-related concerns in this area, the issues are believed to be linked to the same group of nuisance youths identified in previous reports. This group is being proactively targeted through ongoing enforcement efforts. Arrests are being made where possible, and individuals are being issued with conditions aimed at curbing their antisocial and criminal behaviour. Notably, the main individual involved has been issued with a full Community Protection Notice (CPN) and has been designated as a Priority Nominal, ensuring they remain a focus for continued monitoring and intervention.
Issue
Road safety issues.
Action
Excessive speeding continues to be a common concern across many wards, including Walmer. A specific stretch of Dover Road, near the new Wellington Paddocks development, has been highlighted by local residents as a problem area—particularly with Dover-bound traffic. In response, proactive and visible speed enforcement has been carried out using a handheld speed camera. These enforcement efforts will be repeated to maintain a deterrent effect.
The Walmer Town Councillor who serves as the police liaison, ensures that local concerns are communicated effectively and that police actions are fed back to the Council. Additionally, Walmer benefits from an active Community Speedwatch group, which focuses on monitoring inbound traffic along the same stretch of road, further supporting road safety efforts in the area.
