Issue

Road safety issues.

Action

The introduction of the new 20mph speed limit on St Margaret’s High Street has raised concerns about vehicles appearing to exceed the limit. We are working to educate the public on what the police can and cannot enforce, to help manage expectations. Information about the Community Speedwatch scheme has been shared with St Margaret’s Parish Council to support local monitoring efforts.

There have also been reports of nuisance motorcycles, mainly being ridden off-road, including on footpaths frequently used by dog walkers. We are working closely with the Parish Council to identify when and where these incidents are occurring, so we can plan proactive patrols and provide a visible police presence for reassurance and enforcement. Information from the community and the Child-Centred Policing Team is being gathered to help identify possible suspects for follow-up visits. The Parish Council has been asked to encourage residents to report incidents, and this message is being reinforced through newsletters and the My Community Voice platform.

In Kingsdown, residents have raised concerns about road safety on Kingsdown Road, particularly where it changes from a 40mph to a 20mph zone at Cliffe Road. Some vehicles have been observed travelling at excessive speeds. Visible speed enforcement has been carried out using a handheld speed gun. Kingsdown with Ringwould Parish Council has been updated and encouraged to continue reporting road safety concerns, including specific locations and times, to help us target enforcement effectively.

Issue

Antisocial behaviour - General.

Action

Recent reports have highlighted concerns about antisocial behaviour involving youths in St Margaret’s. In response, a joint agency meeting was held with the Kent County Council Community Warden and the Parish Clerk, providing an opportunity for residents to engage directly. Members of the public raised issues such as nuisance motorbikes and youth-related disturbances, and welcomed the visible and accessible policing presence. These patrols will continue. Residents are encouraged to report incidents, with this message being reinforced through the community newsletter and the My Community Voice (MCV) platform. A request has also been made for any passing Neighbourhood Task Force (NTF) units to conduct drive-bys in the area to offer a visible deterrent and reassurance.

Issue

Noise disturbance.

Action

Working closely with the relevant departments at Dover District Council (DDC), the community is being encouraged to report all forms of antisocial behaviour (ASB), including noise nuisance. Educational messaging is being shared through the community newsletter to guide residents on how to report noise-related issues to the appropriate authority. Where noise disturbances fall under the council’s responsibility for enforcement, police will continue to offer support where appropriate to help address and manage these concerns effectively.
