Current Priorities
Issue
Antisocial behaviour - General.
Action
The local beat officer is actively involved in gathering intelligence and evidence, alongside conducting data analysis to identify individuals responsible for antisocial behaviour (ASB) and enable targeted interventions. This work is being carried out in close collaboration with the specialist Kent Police ASB Officer, the Local Authority’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP) ASB Officer, housing teams, the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), and Youth Justice services. This multi-agency approach ensures a coordinated response to ASB, focusing on problem-solving and delivering effective, long-term outcomes for the community.
Issue
Drug dealing.
Action
An organised crime group involved in drug supply has been identified, with key individuals arrested, charged, and currently awaiting trial. Several large-scale cannabis cultivation sites have been located and targeted through police search warrants, resulting in disruption, dismantling of operations, and arrests—including individuals linked to Albanian organised crime.
Local street-level dealers have also been identified and prioritised as key nominals. They are subject to regular intelligence gathering, stop-and-search activity, arrests, and control measures. These include bail conditions, safeguarding interventions involving social services, and in some cases, removal from the district.
A targeted drug operation is scheduled focusing on the ward’s night-time economy. This will involve coordinated efforts between the police, Local Authority, and Licensing teams.
Issue
Road safety issues.
Action
The local beat officer is actively engaged in intelligence and evidence gathering, along with data analysis, to identify individuals involved in road safety offences and enable targeted interventions. All relevant information is assessed and passed to key stakeholders, including the Local Authority’s parking enforcement team, for appropriate follow-up and enforcement action.
The beat officer is also supporting local Speedwatch initiatives to address community concerns around speeding. Additionally, a district-wide e-scooter operation is being planned. This initiative will focus on raising awareness at the point of sale, delivering targeted e-messaging campaigns, and combining education, intervention, and enforcement to promote the safe and legal use of e-scooters across the district.
