Issue
To reduce and prevent theft from stores and support local businesses with retail crime
YOU SAID:
-Retail crime is a problem within the shopping areas of the City Centre and you would like to see action to tackle this
Action
*JULY UPDATE*
WE DID:
-We have conducted numerous Safer business action days. On these days we have conducted dedicated high visibility patrols in key retail areas, in person visits to stores offering advice, joint patrols with security and signposting for support.
-A prolific shoplifter has been arrested and charged with 4 offences and recalled to prison.
-We have continued to seek criminal behaviour orders against those who cause the most harm to our retail community and have another hearing scheduled for September.
-PCSO Tim has carried on his great work identifying suspects for shop theft, detaining multiple caught in the act and returning hundreds pounds worth of property to stores.
-The team have been supporting John Lewis and their security team to help deter shop theft and ASB. We have had some good results in reducing these issues.
*AUGUST UPDATE*
WE DID:
-This month we have secured another 2 Criminal Behaviour orders against prolific shoplifters, preventing them from causing harm to our retailers.
-We have had a follow up meeting with John Lewis management to jointly tackle issues they have been facing with theft.
-During our commitment to Safer Business Action Days we have now visited and patrolled 109 different City Centre stores. During these visits we have had lots of positive interactions with stores, supporting them with theft reduction advice, CCTV support and discussing preventative measures they can take themselves in store.
-Completed high visibility patrols in key shopping areas.
-Our PCSO's have been completing engagement events in shopping centres to support shoppers and retailers.
*SEPTEMBER UPDATE*
WE DID:
-During this priority we have visited over 100 stores. At each location we have conducted high visibility patrols, spoken with management about trends and crime prevention and offered tailored support.
-Over this priority we have secured 4 criminal behaviour orders to tackle those offenders that cause the most harm to our retails community
-Our PCSO's have continued engagement events in shopping centres and key retailers, look at our events section for mor information.
-During this priority we have had 52 successful charges for shoplifting and a further 10 out of court disposals.
Issue
To reduce the use of E-Scooters and overpowered E-Bikes in City Centre spaces
YOU SAID: Speeding E-Bikes and E-Scooters are a concern for you in busy built up areas. You want to see more deployments of Operation Pedalfast to tackle the issue.

WE DID:
-Operation Pedalfast continues to tackle illegal overpowered/modified electric bikes & scooters in the City Centre.
-We have now seized 295 illegal overpowered/modified electric bikes & scooters.
-We have many more deployments planned and it's been great to see the positive responses from the public with the work we have conducted so far.
-It is against the law to drive/ride and E-Scooter outside of private land. If you are seen driving/riding in the City Centre your vehicle will be seized without warning.
-An E-Bike must follow electrically assisted pedal cycle regulations, if it does not comply it will be seized without warning.

WE DID:
-We have now seized 391 illegal overpowered/modified electric bikes & scooters from our City Centre.
-During August we have worked with colleagues and partners from the Home Office, Immigration, Leicester City Council to keep our streets a safe place for walking and wheeling.
-We have been visited by Minister Seema Malhotra -Secretary of State for Migration and Citizenship - to share the good work we have been doing to tackle the illegal use of the vehicles.
-PC Tom has also been working on a project to improve our Police E-Bikes and have more of these vehicles available for our officers.

WE DID:
-We have now seized over 400 illegal overpowered/modified electric bikes & scooters from our City Centre.
-During September we continued to deploy with our colleges from immigration to tackle offenders on these illegal vehicles.
-We have been supporting other policing areas to have this operation deployed in areas that our community has highlighted to us.
-We will continue into October and the Autumn months to tackle this issue and strive to keep the City Centre a safe space.

To reduce anti-social behaviour and misuse of spaces within City Centre fast food outlets and retail areas
YOU SAID:
-Anti-social behaviour is being caused withing fast food outlets and retail areas in the City Centre and you would like to see more of the local Police in these areas.

*JULY UPDATE*
WE DID:
-We have continued supporting local fast food establishments with regular patrols and tackling ASB in their stores.
-We have identified a cohort of over 30 individuals responsible for ASB. They have all been started on the incremental approach including verbal warnings, written warnings and acceptable behaviour contracts.
-From the cohort we have identified 3 who we will be requesting criminal behaviour orders against to tackle their offending and ASB.
-PC Dean who has been leading on this piece of work has had regular meetings with youth justice to ensure the relevant support is in place and we are taking appropriate action to address the concerns raised to us.
*AUGUST UPDATE*
WE DID:
-We have identified and started another 20 individuals on the incremental approach to tackle anti-social behaviour.
-We have been working with Early Intervention to conduct engagement and diversionary activity with youths in the City Centre to prevent them from engaging in ASB.
-Through our continued work with Leicester City Council they will be supporting us to conduct home visits to identified offenders to highlight their anti-social behaviour and discuss sanctions.
-PC Dean has continued his in store visits with fast food retailers and their management. They are supportive of this approach and together we have reduced issues in store over the summer period. This work will continue.
-Through our commitment with our partners we will be offering other diversionary activities which will include pop up youth centre, boxing sessions and more.
*SEPTEMBER UPDATE*
WE DID:
-During this priority we have worked with and supported 25 fast food retailers to collaboratively tackle ASB at their stores. This has resulted in us identifying 57 perpetrators and starting them all on the incremental approach. We have been working with local schools, youth services and other support agencies to initiate lasting change.
-In addition to this we have supported retailers in issuing 20 banning notices to perpetrators.
-Although this priority is ending we will continue this work to tackle ASB in the City Centre.
