The local beat officers spend a great deal of their time with people and organizations on their beat and regularly attend local Parish Council meetings. They support and value local Neighbourhood Watch schemes and encourage residents to become involved. The officers are keen to introduce new innovations such as 'smartwater' to aid crime prevention and are eager to involve the community with policing matters and initiatives.

Burbage also has a police office, from which they hold a surgery on the first Saturday of every month from 10am - 2pm.

Current Priorities

Issue

You Said – Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) around local parks and streets in Burbage is a cause for concern

Action

We Did – We have recognised the concerns of the community and have made it our priority to tackle this issue. We are already actively targeting those involved in the supply and use of drugs and urge anyone with information about this offending or that believes suspicious behaviour is taking place nearby that they should report this to us via 101 or crime stoppers. Over the summer months high visibility patrols will be increased in hotspot locations to act as a deterrent to possible ASB and where reports of ASB are received the beat team will work in partnership with Hinckley Borough Council to identify and deal with perpetrators promptly.

July has seen a lot of good results in relation to disrupting drug activity in Burbage. Work includes stop checks, targeted patrols, lots of arrests and property searches. Areas of activity include Brookside, Higham Way, Bridge Road, Church Street and the M69 island area. We continue to ask for information if you have any concerns so we can target our resources. Drug use and dealing impacts on local communities and often targets young, and vulnerable people. We have been completing patrols and engaging with youths around local parks, no issues to report. Other work around Anti-social behaviour includes dealing with neighbour disputes and partnership working to resolve these issues. This often links in to safeguarding concerns where we will complete work to try and get people the support they need.

August - No real issues with youth related anti-social behaviour until the last week of the school holidays and first week of them returning, where we have seen a few reports of ASB such as egg throwing and criminal damage. We are working with local schools to identify those involved. No particular locations of concern although we have targeted some of our patrols around the Brookside, Brookside allotments and train station area. Local Police activity around this subject has included targeted patrols and dealing with neighbour disputes.

We have identified and spoken too/dealt with youths involved with Anti-social behaviour over the last week. Some of our reports are still under investigation and are being dealt with over the coming weeks. Home visits, Police interviews and partnership work are all being completed.

Issue

You Said – Burglaries of sheds and other outbuildings

Action

We Did – We will be making this type of crime a priority over the next 3 months looking to raise awareness within the community in order that neighbours can look out for each other when away on holiday. The use of light timers and other crime prevention goods will be highlighted as a deterrent and increased patrols in hotspots will be taking place.

Where offences are reported local officers will work closely with the detectives to ensure that community intelligence and CCTV opportunities are maximised to provide the greatest opportunities of identifying the offenders.

July - There have been multiple reports of either residential burglary or attempt burglary during July. Areas include Aster way, The Coppice, Westminster Drive and Alesworth Drive. The majority of these reports are suspected to be vehicle crime related. Suspects will often target properties with high value vehicles, early hours of the morning and will attempt to take car keys. They will target rear doors and conservatory doors. These reports happened over the nights of the 6th and 20th-23rd of July. Officers have been completing targeted patrols. We have also been completing targeted crime prevention work in these area, including leaflet drops and supporting residents with crime reduction items such as window alarms and fence spikes. Please continue to be mindful as we are still in the holiday period. Call 999 immediately if you see a crime in progress.

August - Report of a residential burglary on Hanover court where suspect/s have entered an insecure property and taken items such as handbags. We have received reports of suspicious activity and ask that if you see a crime in progress, please call 999 immediately. We are always trying to support residents with crime prevention items, advice and ask that residents ensure that doors/windows are locked and no items of value are left on display. Please continue to be mindful around home security during the holidays.

August and the first week of September have limited to no other reports other than documented above. We have received several reports around the village of suspicious activity which would have likely been linked to either attempt residential burglary or vehicle related crime. We continue to encourage residents who see this type of behaviour to call 999 immediately. We also continue to raise awareness and offer support in relation to securing property and making it difficult for opportunistic criminals.

Issue

You Said – Being the victim of a vehicle crime is a concern for local residents.

Action

We Did – Over the coming months we seek to increase awareness across the community of this issue and to provide greater crime prevention advice through the use of social media, messages on the Neighbourhood Link platform, posters and crime prevention events across the beat.

Whilst current crime trends show that this type of offending is reducing, seasonal crime trends would suggest that warmer weather and school holidays do see an increase due to windows being left open and owners being away on holiday therefore their cars being unattended for longer periods. Our patrols targeting this type of offending will continue and where offences occur, local officers will seek to support the investigators by visiting the areas and looking at CCTV and other evidential opportunities to maximise the likelihood of identifying an offender.

July - Issues of vehicle theft link in with residential burglary as suspects are currently breaking into properties to get car keys. Vehicles have been stolen from locations such as Horsepool, Brookside and Sketchley Road. We have recovered several vehicles and arrests have been made. Work with neighbouring Police forces is often key when identifying those involved in this type of organised crime. Vehicles targeted include Ford models and BMWs. Reports of vehicle thefts are sporadic and tend to happen over a couple of nights. We have visited victims, completed work such as door to door and CCTV work. We also continue to offer support with items such as RFID wallets and other crime reduction items. Please use steering locks, driveway bollards and ensure home security is reasonable. Often, simple measures will deter criminals.

August - Report where suspects have attempted to take 2 motorbikes. One was taken and investigations are ongoing. We are asking residents to be mindful around motorbike/bicycle thefts in the area. We have received multiple reports of suspicious activity in Burbage which some of it appears to be vehicle related. Please call 999 immediately if you believe a crime is in progress.

August was a good month in Burbage in relation to vehicle crime with very limited reports. We have completed arrests in relation to stolen vehicles from out of Burbage and ongoing work completed with residents to support with target hardening property/vehicles.
