Current Priorities

Issue

Retail theft on the beat has increased significantly compared to last year.

Action

The beat team will work with local retailers to ensure the offences are reported to us and evidence gathered in a timely manner to pursue persistent offenders.
Officers have visited the stores that are suffering the most thefts, providing a visible presence. They have been ensuring all evidence is collected in a timely manner to ensure investigations proceed without delay once offenders are identified.

At the beginning of April 2024 a new beat priority was created for Theft from local stores, in the three months this has been a priority for local beat officers we have continued to work with many stores within shelthorpe mainly along Park road.
Two of our prolific shoplifters received suspended sentences recently with some good being carried out by officers from Charnwood NPA. The team have been working closely with shops in the Ling Road area, one of which has been targeted consistently by various shoplifters. The increased Police presence has resulted in a decrease in offences being reported to us.

Issue

There is an issue with drugs and an increase in reporting of their use and dealing.

Action

The team have been gathering evidence and working with partners to identify persons of interest and will develop intelligence around them.
The team have been conducting leaflet drops in the area and gathering intelligence. We have several addresses we are concentrating on and hope to yield some positive results soon.
We have been receiving various reports relating to smoking cannabis in the street, cannabis grows and dealing. The team have been targeting these areas with patrols and stop checks and will continue to gather intelligence with a view to support any warrant applications.

Issue

There have been an increased reports of loud, nuisance bikes in the area.

Action

Patrols have been increased around the Allendale Road estate due to the amount of complaints received. We are exploring lines of enquiry relating to one particular red bike. We are also aware of the damage caused to the anti bike gates and this is being investigated.
