Current Priorities

Issue

Retail theft on the beat has increased significantly compared to last year.

Action

The beat team will work with local retailers to ensure the offences are reported to us and evidence gathered in a timely manner to pursue persistent offenders.
Officers have visited the stores that are suffering the most thefts, providing a visible presence. They have been ensuring all evidence is collected in a timely manner to ensure investigations proceed without delay once offenders are identified.

At the beginning of April 2024 a new beat priority was created for Theft from local stores, in the three months this has been a priority for local beat officers we have continued to work with many stores within shelthorpe mainly along Park road.

Police enforced a full closure order on an address on park road and from there the council then sought possession of the property back, this was partly to do with theft from local stores and we had very positive feedback from the stores due to this.
The police have held meetings with management from stores in order to build working relationships and improve tactics in order to reduce offending.
A male who had been targeting One Stop, Ling Road over a number of days, committing over 15 thefts was caught and remanded into custody. We will continue to support our retailers, continue with our regular patrols and tackle those who cause harm.

The beat team continue with patrols and gathering evidence. Thefts compared to last month are down 40%, mainly due to some prolific shop lifters being caught and sentenced by the courts.

Shoplifting across the beat is down 75% compared to last month which is very encouraging. This is in part related to the arrest of prolific offenders, increased patrols and better working with the retail businesses.

We've seen a small increase in retail theft across the beat and are working closely with one of our large retailers to target these individuals and hope to identify them soon.

One of our prolific shop lifters who had recently been released from prison was arrested by officers after they had committed 6 thefts, catching them early ensured we could focus our attention elsewhere.
Our beat PCSO's, alerted by a shop on the beat stopped a person suspected of shoplifting and they were subsequently arrested by officers.
We continue to work closely with the retailers on our beat, conducting high visibility patrols and prosecuting those who persist.
Officers have been targeting individuals by conducting patrols during the times they commit offences with positive results.

Update

The beat team are conducting regular patrols around our most targeted stores. Their work is important in assisting response officers by helping gather the evidence to identify our offenders.
We has some positive news last week when the Magistrates Court granted a new 3 year Criminal Behaviour Order to a prolific shoplifter. This means they are banned from all but a few shops within the Loughborough area. A lot of work had gone into securing this Order but it will assist in tackling the problem.

Our offender who was given the CBO had been involved in a string of thefts and has been arrested and charged. We are working with retailers daily to try to deter, identify and deal promptly with our shoplifters.

Staff at Tesco identified an outstanding offender for 5 thefts and they were arrested by officers. Retail theft continues to be a problem and only by working closely with retailers and gathering evidence quickly can we manage this problem.

Issue

There is an issue with drugs and an increase in reporting of their use and dealing.

Action

The team have been gathering evidence and working with partners to identify persons of interest and will develop intelligence around them.
The team have been conducting leaflet drops in the area and gathering intelligence. We have several addresses we are concentrating on and hope to yield some positive results soon.
Earlier in the month we dismantled a cannabis grow at an address on the beat and are pursuing lines of enquiry to prosecute those involved. We continue to focus on this problem and would encourage anyone with information about drug dealing to contact Crimestoppers.
In conjunction with Charnwood Borough Council, we successfully executed two partial closure orders against two addresses that had been involved in drug dealing and anti social behaviour.

Update

The beat team have been conducting regular compliance checks at the two partial closure addresses, as only certain people are allowed to be there.
We continue to receive intelligence about drug dealing on the beat and we are working to develop it, with the potential of obtaining warrants. The beat team would like to thank the community and encourage you to continue reporting drug activity.
Earlier this month we dismantled a cannabis factory on the beat as a result of information provided.

We continue to receive intelligence reports about certain addresses on the beat that are suspected of being involved in drug dealing/taking and we will focus our attention on these premises to develop and gain more information in order to take action.
A cannabis grow was discovered and dismantled on the Allendale estate with 1 person arrested. Enquiries are ongoing.
Another cannabis grow was discovered on the beat and one male was arrested. The set up was dismantled and enquiries are still on going.
We continue to ask for support within the community to tell us about drug activity and we are continuing to develop intelligence around addresses on the beat.

Issue

Increased reports of speeding vehicles on the beat

Action

We received increasing reports around speeding within the beat area. Some related specifically to Belvoir Drive, Loughborough where motorists were consistently exceeding the 30mph speed limit.

Over the past month, the beat team have been concentrating their attention on Belvoir Road, Hazel Road and Nanpantan Road.
On Nanpantan Road, near to St Marys Church, officers recorded 155 cars over an hour, 17% of those were speeding. The beat team will look to enforce in this area.
