The Valley neighbourhood beat incorporates the villages of Kegworth, Long Whatton, Diseworth, Belton, Osgathorpe, Swannington, Breedon on the Hill and Castle Donnington and the Donington Park Race Circuit.  These towns and villages have a number of shops, pubs, schools and colleges .

It is a large neighbourhood area covering almost half of the local policing area and is mainly rural with farms, shops and schools spread across the area.  The M1 motorway and A42 passes through the centre of the area allowing to excellent transport links and has attracted a number of large businesses to the area including the TNT Eurohub and Enstone Quarries at Breedon.

Current Priorities

Issue

To target ASB involving young people in Kegworth Village.

Action

You have been reporting Anti social behaviour involving young people in Kegworth Village.

We have identified key locations and persons becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and have started working with individuals on the ASB tiered approach.

For the next three months additional high visibility patrols will be undertaken in the village by Neighbourhood Officers to deter anti-social behaviour and we will continue to work with those engaging in ASB and their families.

Our findings so far have been that the ASB activity is being caused by local children in their early teens who are meeting up and hanging out together in the street. Without any plans and out of boredom they are making a nuisance of themselves, being verbally abusive to local shop keepers and residents and causing minor damage. We ask that parents be intrusive into their child's social activities, where they are going, who with and what they are doing. If they are just meeting in the street with no plans its likely they are going to end up involved in this kind of activity and you may find us returning them to you.

We are currently working with several families to combat the ASB being caused in the village and hope this work will have a positive effect in your community.

Issue

To reduce serious and acquisitive crime across the Valley Beat by utilising a range of tactical options including prevention, investigative support and victim / witness care.

Action

We have seen a recent increase in the amount of burglaries committed where the sole intention is to locate car keys in order to steal your car.

We want to focus on preventing you from being victim to this kind of crime and will use a range of crime prevention strategies including going house to house in effected areas, targeting social media campaigns to provide specific crime prevention advice and holding beat surgeries and seminars locally.

So far we have focussed on prevention and target hardening to reduce serious and acquisitive crime. We have conducted house to house visits and have attended local events to educate residents on home and vehicle security.

We have also focussed efforts on identifying suspects involved in burglaries. Finally we have provided support to victims of crime to help them recover from the trauma of being a victim of serious and acquisitive crime

Issue

To deal with vehicle related ASB in the vicinity of Diseworth Road, Castle Donington.

Action

You told us there are still ongoing issues with vehicles causing ASB in and around the area of Diseworth Road, Castle Donington.

To reduce the effect this is having on local residents we have increased our patrols in these areas and taken action against any drivers found to be causing ASB using a range of powers available to us.

We have put up warning signs at the location which act as the additional warning so that we can implement immediate seizure of any vehicles found at the location being driven in an anti social manner.
