Current Priorities
Issue
Priority: ASB specifically around the use of E-bikes and E-scooters.
You Said: You are aggrieved by those riding illegal e-bikes and e-scooters on our beat.
What we are going to do: We have a number of days of action coming up where you will see us out enforcing against those who commit these offences.
Action
Throughout August, the Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team has been actively addressing concerns raised by the community regarding rowdy behaviour and public drinking in Bede Park. These issues have had a noticeable impact on the quality of life for local residents and park users, and tackling them has remained a key priority for the team.
In response, officers have implemented a dedicated patrol plan, ensuring frequent and targeted visits to Bede Park at key times of the day and evening. These patrols have focused on preventing and deterring anti-social behaviour, engaging directly with individuals involved, and taking enforcement action where necessary.
Officers have regularly encountered groups consuming alcohol and behaving in a disruptive manner. Where appropriate, alcohol has been confiscated, and individuals have been moved on or issued warnings under relevant legislation. These interventions have helped to reduce the visibility and impact of such behaviour, making the park a safer and more welcoming space for families, students, and other members of the public.
Alongside enforcement, the team has taken a community-focused approach, speaking with park users and local residents to better understand the issues and provide reassurance. Officers have also worked closely with partner agencies to identify repeat offenders and support those who may be vulnerable or in need of intervention.
The increased police presence has had a positive effect and we are consistently working towards improving public confidence. Feedback from the community has highlighted appreciation for the team’s visibility and commitment to tackling ASB head-on.
The work carried out in August demonstrates the team’s ongoing dedication and proactive approach to addressing local concerns. We remain committed to maintaining a strong presence in Bede Park and continuing our efforts to ensure it remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.
Issue
Priority: ASB on Bede park specifically those being rowdy and drinking alcohol.
You Said: You feel negatively impacted by rowdy groups drinking alcohol on Bede Park.
What we are going to do: We are creating a dedicated patrol plan for frequent visits to Bede Park to prevent, deter and educate those who are causing you these issues.
Action
During August, the Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working tirelessly to tackle the ongoing issues surrounding the illegal and antisocial use of e-bikes and e-scooters, with a particular focus on the Bede Park area. This priority has been addressed through a series of proactive patrols, community engagement, and targeted enforcement under Operation Pedalfast.
Officers have been out regularly conducting high-visibility operations, which have resulted in the seizure of numerous illegal e-bikes and e-scooters. These efforts have not only disrupted offending but have also sent a strong message to those who continue to misuse these vehicles. The operation has been instrumental in reducing the risk to pedestrians and other park users, improving safety and reassurance in the area.
In addition to enforcement, the team has placed a strong emphasis on education and engagement, speaking directly with individuals about the legal requirements and safety concerns associated with e-bike and e-scooter use. This approach has helped to raise awareness and prevent further incidents, particularly among younger riders who may not be fully aware of the law.
The consistent presence of officers in and around Bede Park has acted as a visible deterrent, and feedback from the community has been positive, with many residents expressing appreciation for the increased patrols and the team's commitment to addressing the issue.
Overall, the team’s efforts throughout August reflect a robust and balanced approach, combining enforcement with education to deliver long-term improvements and ensure that Westcotes remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Issue
Priority: Burglary of Commercial Buildings.
You Said: We have had some burglaries recently and this is causing you concern.
What we are going to do: We know who the burglars are, the repeat offenders who keep coming to our attention, we are going to do what we can to prevent their reoffending. Whilst this is easier said than done, it doesn’t stop us putting in every measure we can. Alongside the rehabilitation and support mechanisms we always push, we are going to act on the patterns that make it clear to us who is committing these crimes and when we collate the evidence we need we will put the offenders back before the court again. Burglary is a very intrusive crime that leaves a lasting impact on those who are victims of it and it does not sit well with us that the people who commit these crimes are out there causing harm to you. To that end rest assured that we are working tirelessly to stop them.
Action
In August, the Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team has continued to prioritise the prevention and disruption of commercial burglaries, following a recent rise in incidents that has understandably caused concern among local business owners.
Our officers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to identify and target the repeat offenders responsible for these crimes. Through a combination of intelligence gathering, pattern analysis, and partnership working, we have been able to build a clearer picture of who is committing these offences and when they are most likely to strike.
While bringing offenders to justice is not always immediate, we are committed to putting every possible measure in place to prevent reoffending. This includes targeted patrols in hotspot areas, increased visibility during vulnerable hours, and ongoing engagement with local businesses to offer crime prevention advice and support.
We are also working closely with our offender management teams and partner agencies to ensure that those responsible are not only held accountable but are also offered rehabilitation and support where appropriate. However, where individuals continue to cause harm to our community, we are determined to gather the necessary evidence and return them to court.
Burglary is an intrusive and distressing crime that leaves a lasting impact on its victims. It does not sit well with us that those responsible are out there causing harm, and we want to reassure our community that we are doing everything in our power to stop them.
The work carried out this month reflects a relentless and focused approach, combining enforcement, prevention, and partnership to protect local businesses and restore confidence. We remain committed to tackling this issue head-on and will continue to keep the community updated on our progress.
