Current Priorities

Issue

Local crime statistics shows that Robberies are centred around BALHAM HIGH ROAD SW17 and environs including TOOTING BEC COMMON.

Action

Op Kenny has been created and will be focused on the Tooting area. They are a team of officers who are dedicated to preventing and tackling violent crime in the area which does include Robbery and knife enabled crime. Op Kenny officers work closely with the South Balham Safer Neighbourhood Team, which involves using gathered intelligence so we can focus our proactive patrols in hot spot areas. Patrols are conducted in plain clothes, to better identify any suspects committing these offences and hi-visibility to deter any criminality in the area. We work regularly and closely with the Parks police sharing intel and people of note.

Issue

Vehicle crime is being committed in specific areas where a large number of vehicles are parked, this includes Balham Station and Tooting Common. Common offences being committed are theft from vehicles and theft of vehicles. Due to the high number of take away restaurants in the area, we have seen an increase in moped delivery drivers being targeted.

Action

Patrol and prevent and respond to reports of vehicle crime and provide crime prevention leaflet drops in those areas targeted by criminals. Analyse the crime report data to identify areas and times of greatest frequency and patrol to disrupt and deter car crime.

During our shift we regularly conduct hi-visibility patrols in areas around Tooting Common and Balham Station. We have a good relationship local shops and organisations so that we are kept up to date with any issues that they have been made aware of. There have also been discussions with the council regarding extra CCTV in the hotspot areas to make the area safer for the public. We will continue to monitor the situation through our reports and carry out crime prevention initiatives.

Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour reports of youths congregating in CORNFORD GROVE and LIITLE DIMMOCKS SW12, smoking in the stairwells and gathering on path outside of Homemead, residents state they feel intimidated. In addition, CORNFORD GROVE has been affected by noise nuisance, late night shouting, dog fouling and aggressive behaviour.

Action

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour requires ongoing engagement from the team to reduce the issues and keep them from reoccurring so that it has a minimal impact on the community. We are committed to keeping up to date with any intelligence surrounding youth ASB in the ward. We have used the intelligence to amend our duties to days/times where ASB are more likely to occur. When dealing with reported ASB of youths we have utilised our powers under the Road Traffic Act as well as using other policing powers when appropriate, such as issuing ASB warnings, Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices, these can be issued to specific individuals who have been reported to us. Throughout this we have been in contact with the council and looking to secure temporary CCTV to deter ASB.
