Current Priorities

Issue

Violence Against Person - Drugs and Knife crime in around Poplin Apartments and Burial Ground.

Action

Utilising up to date data analysis to identify specific areas and offenders of concern directs our patrols. High visibility patrols as well as organised weapon sweeps will be conducted. We will proactively engage persons suspected of criminality via the use of stop search where grounds exist and is appropriate and proportionate to do so.
We are already working in partnership with Wandsworth Council Community Safety Officer on crime reduction strategies which include the use of ASB legislation, youth engagement bus and regular contact with local places of education via our Child and Young Person officer. Issues in relation to young people of concern are discussed at a fortnightly professionals meeting whilst wider longer term matters are discussed at Senior Leadership level at a quarterly Youth Board chaired by the neighbourhood Superintendent.

Issue

To reduce ASB offences and shoplifting offences within the shopping centre and Garratt Lane area.
Retail crime (shoplifting, assaults against staff and criminal damage) have increased year on year. In line with the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, these crime types and associated issues such as begging, homelessness and sustance misuse will be treated as a priority.

Action

Officers arealready working directly with the shopping centre management company and retailers to identify offenders via joint proactive patrols and sharing of CCTV images via an online retail platform. Identified persons are arrested for substantiated offences or issued with ASB legislation eg; Community Protection Notices (CPN) and Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBO).

Officers will continue to focus on high street crime via OPERATION RETAIL which encompasses greater collaboration with businesses. Op Slaven a Wandsworth borough wide initiative which ran between April and June led to 22 arrests and over 30 stop searches across Wandsworth, with six arrests being made in Southside Centre.

Issue

Increase in summer ASB at Ram Quarter relating to the Night Time Economy.

***EMERGING ISSUE***

With recent warm sunshine and long summer evenings, there has been a marked increase in reports of ASB from within the Ram Quarter. In support of Wandsworth Summer plans, this will be treated as a priority in the upcoming weeks.

Action

Proactive patrols will be deployed in the area identifying persons and premises of concern. We will be working with colleagues from the police and council licensing departments ensuring that responsible management of premises is adhered to. (Music noise levels, outdoor seatng provision, table service etc is reduced at a reasonable time). National strategies such as Challenge 25 and Ask for Angela will be tested. Spot checks on SIS holders will be made to ensure customers are protected whilst general ASB such as drunkenness and public urination will be robustly dealt with.
