Retail Crime
Action
We have continued our efforts to target prolific offenders by seeking to quickly gather the necessary evidence and prioritizing the arrest of the suspects so that we can quickly get them before court. In the last 3 days the team has a 66% detection rate for shop theft across the district (compared to 27% for all crime) . Overall we have seen a 33.6% decrease in shop theft compared to last year across the district. We are working with the Prevention Hub, and Newark & Sherwood District Council on other opportunities to address offending such as CBOs, injunctions and diversionary opportunities.

Night Time Economy Policing
Action
Officers from N&S Neighbourhood Team have continued in our commitment to provide a dedicated policing presence in Newark Town Centre every Friday and Saturday evening with the specific tasking of policing the pubs and bars during those peak hours. Officers have routinely conducted walk throughs, licensing checks and engaged with door staff and customers to provide reassurance and deter any offending. Officers continue to attend pub watch meetings to work with licensees and listen to their feedback.
There have been numerous events in the town centre throughout summer, which we have attended in order to provide a visual presence and deter offending. These have been successful events and it is reassuring to know that we have had no reports of serious violence in the town centre in the night time economy setting, in the month of August.
Issue
Street level crime and ASB
Action
There has been a heightened police presence in Newark Town Centre and Hawtonville as part of the Hot Spot Patrol fund and the Safer Towns for Summer initiative. Across the district we have conducted patrols, and responded to reports of ASB from the public. The team have attended numerous community events in order to provide a visible presence and deter offending. We are continuing to work with NSDC to use all options to tackle crime and ASB, including proactive use of the PSPO and other civil powers. We have seen a reduction in ASB of 14% compared to last year.
