Issue
There are pockets of Eastwood where the supply and use of drugs has become prevalent.
Action
Officers have spent a lot of time patrolling the area in plain clothes and have carried out a high number of stop searches. This has succeeded in stopping the problem for the time being but the team is continuing to search for a long-term solution to this problem.
Issue
There are levels of antisocial behaviour in the town centre which people find unacceptable. Particular things which have been mentioned are groups of disorderly people in the transport interchange and beggars outside shops.
Action
We have used acceptable behaviour contracts to good effect to deal with young people who have been behaving antisocially. We have then used community protection notices and eventually criminal behaviour orders to tackle begging. When these criminal behaviour orders are issued by the courts, they can be particularly effective.
