https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/article/2905/Leek-RuralLeek rural consists of both rural and urban areas. It covers Endon, Stockton Brook, Brown Edge, Stanley, Bagnall, Longsdon, Rudyard, Horton and Rushton Spencer.
The area has one high school that is located in Endon and several primary schools. There are significant leisure facilities such as an 18-hole golf course in Stockton Brook, boating clubs in Stanley and Endon, and Rudyard Lake which is an area of natural beauty with boating facilities and a mini steam railway line. There are numerous public footpaths for ramblers and a canal towpath that runs through from Stockton Brook to Longsdon. Parts of this stretch of towpath have undergone an archaeological dig to reveal the industrial innovations in the local area.
Current Priorities
Issue
Speeding offences continue to be a key local concern at specific locations across the area.
Action
Community speed watch play an active part in tackling this issue alongside our officers who undertake speed enforcement operations. We have also deployed the roads policing unit to support local officers. This work is ongoing.
Issue
Tackling anti-social behaviour, including the use of off-road bikes and e-scooters in residential streets.
Action
On July 16th, officers from Staffordshire Roads Policing Unit attended Endon High school to give a talk to students about BikeSafe. This includes road safety when using mopeds and motorbikes, how to be a responsible rider and offences involving the anti-social use of bikes. Feedback from the students and teachers was positive. Officers will be out during the summer months carrying out enforcement operations to tackle this issue.
Detached youth workers have been out and about in the Endon area (specifically around Station Road and park in Hillswood Drive) during the summer months. This has positively reduced the number of calls regarding anti-social behaviour. We are aware of reports in the last few days of minor damage around Endon. PCSOs have identified a small number of children involved and are working with families to agree Acceptable Behaviour Contracts with the children. We will continue to work closely with schools in the area at the start of the school term and continue to monitor any reported incidents.
