It has a number of schools - one of which is a specialist sports college - and a thriving leisure centre with up-to-date facilities. There are also extensive cycle paths and walkways along the Biddulph Valley Way.
Current Priorities
Issue
Burglary and vehicle crime is an ongoing priority.
Action
Local officers are reviewing all reports of vehicle crime and burglary, supported by our forensics and detective colleagues. This ensures that our operational activities are driven through the criminal justice processes to achieve the best outcome for the public. Our officers continue to make key arrests through detailed investigations, and bringing offenders to justice. This is ongoing.
Issue
Anti-social behaviour (ASB), including vandalism, off-road bikes and youth-related nuisance behaviour is an ongoing priority.
Action
Officers have worked alongside Sainsburys in High Street to address anti-social behaviour in and around the store.
Officers are also taking a partnership approach to tackle the root cause of behaviour, as well as using both criminal and civil powers to tackle this issue. Increased patrols and intelligence gathering around off-road biking is being used to catch and deter this type of anti-social behaviour.
Update 2nd September: we are aware that off-road bikes continues to be a problem particularly around the playing fields off Church Road Biddulph. This has been adopted as a problem solving profile and local policing are looking at a variety of tactics to tackle the problem.
Issue
Theft affecting businesses in Biddulph. Through recent scanning and analysis, we've identified Aldi, Tunstall Road as a repeat location for theft-related incidents.
Action
These premises have been highlighted due to ongoing reports of thefts affecting businesses, staff, and the wider community. In response, our team is actively working on problem-solving approaches with store management and partners, including:
- High visibility patrols during peak hours
- Targeted offender management; use of Criminal Behaviour Order's for repeat offenders
- Use of CCTV and intelligence sharing
- Crime prevention advice and support for staff
Following this proactive policing, we have seen a significant reduction in reported shoplifting in the town centre. We will continue to work with local businesses to further reduce thefts.
