Current Priorities

Issue

Shoplifting reported predominantly in Sunbury Cross Shopping Centre

Action

PCSOs Andrews and Lappin have been continuing with reassurance and deterrence patrols in and around the Sunbury Cross area. Whilst on patrol, they have been engaging with the stores to check in with managers and staff, provide reassurance and advice, and monitor shoplifting numbers. PCSO Lappin will be continuing with crime prevention stands for the public within the Cross, where officers will be present to offer advice and answer any questions. The importance of reporting is still being stressed to both the public and store workers/managers.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour - Youth related ASB / vehicle use such as speeding, E-scooters and poor driving / Use of catapults / use of face covering in particular balaclavas

Action

Foot patrols by PCSOs continue in identified hotspot areas including Sunbury Cross, Staines Town Centre and Ashford High Street. Remaining with our partner-agency work with the council and others, we have worked to keep people, especially young people, away from criminal activity by signposting them to youth centres, sports clubs and groups, Police cadets and other volunteer groups.
There is continuation of the enforcement of the Public Space Protection Order with Spelthorne Council which makes possession of catapults and face coverings illegal in the borough without a lawful excuse to have them. Our targeted action across Sunbury, Ashford and Staines has seen a large decrease in ASB while increasing reporting and action from stores and security teams to tackle this activity with partners.
Officers continue to attend roads where there are reports of speeding, anti-social driving and dangerous driving with speed lasers. Warnings, tickets, and points have been issued to a number of people due to this.

Issue

Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) - Areas that the community tell us they feel unsafe / inappropriate or unpleasant behaviour / sexual offences /domestic abuse

Action

Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)- High visibility patrols in hotspot locations where women and girls have reported feeling unsafe, whilst also identifying locations through reported incidents. Planning to deliver talks and attending community engagement events in mosques, women’s groups, and local community centres to raise awareness, build trust, and encourage reporting. Licensing checks at premises have been planned for July, whilst also working closely with licensed premises to encourage reporting and identifying any VAWG related incidents.

Issue

Drug related harm - Targeting drug dealers and associated violence in particular knife crime.

Action

Local PCSOs Andrews and Lappin have conducted several “Street a Weeks”, speaking to residents in a local area following drug intelligence. Through this, they have determined areas and streets where there are higher levels of drug harm and activity, creating problem solving’s, developing intelligence and producing means to counter this.
Proactive policing operations in areas known for drug supply.
Knife prevention and education action.
In the past year we have charged to court/cautioned or taken other out of court action for 230 offences and carried out at least one drugs related warrant a month on average.

Issue

Serious acquisitive crime : Burglary/Robbery - Burglary from residential properties. Street robberies.

Action

Proactive policing operations in areas known for these offences.
Overt/covert policing operations against known offenders and orgainised crime groups.
Crime prevention and engagement with residents to help prevent the crime happening and recover stolen property.
Through our focused action on residential burglary, we have seen a 30% reduction in offences from the period of January-June 2024 (40 offences) to January-June 2025 (28 offences).
