Current Priorities
Issue
Shoplifting - Increased theft from shops and in some cases threats/violence towards hardworking staff who work in them
Action
Regular engagement with local shops and businesses to increase confidence in reporting crime to the police and improving security.
Policing operations in each town to proactively target shop crime.
Focusing on orgainised crime groups committing the majority of large scale theft for profit.
We have seen an increase in reporting by nearly 100% compared to last year because of increased confidence in police action.
Nearly 25% of all shop crime now results in a suspect being charged to court/cautioned or other out court action compare to 15% in previous finical years.
Issue
Anti-social behaviour - Youth related ASB / vehicle use such as speeding, E-scooters and poor driving / Use of catapults / use of face covering in particular balaclavas
Action
Foot patrols in identified hot spot areas such as Staines Town Centre, Sunbury Cross Hopping Centre and Ashford Town Centre.
Using ASB legislation such as dispersal orders, community protection notices and criminal behaviour orders to target offenders.
Diversionary work with partners to move people (in particular Children) away from criminal activity – youth centre, sports clubs/groups, Police/Military cadets, other volunteer groups.
Enforcement of the new Public Space Protection order which makes possession of catapults and face coverings illegal without lawful excuse in the borough.
Our targeted action in Staines and Sunbury has seen a decrease in ASB, we remain committed to improving Ashford.
Issue
Drug related harm - Targeting drug dealers and associated violence in particular knife crime.
Action
local PCSOs after receiving a piece of intelligence regarding the usage of cannabis. With this we have been able to conduct house to house in the area to understand the impact. We are now working with the relevant professionals to reduce and prevent this issue from happening.
Issue
Parking issues where people are parking on the pavement or parking dangerously around the Staines area.
Action
local PCSOs are dealing with various different parking disputes that are happening over the area of staines. We have been able to speak to the relevant authorities and waiting for a positive outcome. We are working closely with the people who are affected by this matter.
Issue
Catapults are being used to injure wildlife or to damage property.
Action
Local PCSO's are conducting the relevant foot patrols in order to target the usage of catapults. We are also educating the people regarding the dangers of carrying a catapult. Having a catapult also falls under the PSPO that we have which is the public space protection order. This means that we are able to work with the council and issue the person with a fine for being in possession of a catapult.
