Serious acquisitive crime - Burglaries / keyless Vehicle Theft Although there is no specific hotspot in the borough for burglaries and keyless vehicle thefts, the north of the borough sees higher reported offences, likely due to its vicinity to the strategic road network
Action
The local team have been sharing crime prevention advice locally .
The local team follow up on CCTV and house to house enquiries on reported offences.
There is ongoing cross border working and information sharing - including proactive patrols of hotspot areas,
We are aware of the impact of these crimes and strive to be a visible presence, targeting our patrols and gathering intelligence to support our investigations.
Issue
Shoplifting and retail Crime
Increased theft from shops and concerns regarding threats / violence towards retail staff
Action
The team have successfully identified an organised crime group targeting Tesco in Caterham and 5 adults have been charged with conspiracy to steal in relation to 37 offences over 11 counties.
The team complete regular engagement with the local shops and businesses to increase confidence locally.
Following this engagement there has been an increase in reporting of offences locally.
The team are targeting repeat offenders and utilising anti social behaviour legislation when appropriate
There have been and there are further policing operations in the town, both overt and covert targeting retail crime and
anti social behaviour.
