Current Priorities
Issue
Public place violent crime, and night-time economy related crime and disorder.
Reducing public place violent crime including VAWG and youth related crime and disorder keeping all communities safe from violence.
Increased patrols during the night-time economy, with partners including Night Safety Marshalls and Street Pastors each Friday and Saturday evening under Operation Marble.
Continuing our work alongside partners and support agencies for victims of violent crime, including domestic abuse and VAWG, and to continue raising awareness of support channels advice, and reporting services available to all victims.
In swiftly responding to incidents of public based violence, and using policing powers available, from powers of dispersal, to criminal behaviour orders to crackdown on offending.
Action
Supporting our night time economy, officers for the town centre have continued working with partners including the Eastbourne Night Safety Marshalls, and Street Pastors, to conduct night time patrols and offer a police presence into the small hours especially over the weekend (Friday-Monday).
Following incidents involving knife crime in the town centre earlier this year, patrols for the town centre have continued to be a priority for local teams, with daily patrols averaging 4 times a day and lasting on average 6 hours each.
In response to community concerns, local officers have set up a number of events in relation to supporting VAWG and serious crime (inc knife and drug crime) in which residents are invited along to hear directly of the work being conducted to keep everyone who visits our town predominantly at night safe and without fear of unwanted behaviours.
Issue
Town Centre business crime
Supporting town centre businesses in targeting repeat offenders, and working to reduce business crime through collaborative work, through both increased patrols, and police and partner led operations to tackle business crime, and bring those responsible to justice.
Action
For the month of July over 80 dedicated town centre patrols have taken place, with officers working alongside partners, town centre security, local business owners and volunteers to help make your town a safe place to shop and an unwelcoming place for those wishing to commit crime in the area.
Almost 60 of those patrols have been on foot with officers proactively engaging with members of the public, and local businesses to identify repeat offenders and support local trade.
A number of significant arrests have been made in the town centre in the last 4 weeks (July) as a result of these patrols under the banner of both HotSpot Policing and Safer Streets Summer initiative, helping to reduce the number of business thefts and business crime reports.
Officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team have committed time to setting up a number of events from our Police POD on Terminus Road to address recent crime reports, offer crime prevention advice and support, as well to act as a visible deterrent to those causing harm to local businesses.
Issue
Drug harm reduction
Targeting drug related crime in your town centre through intelligence, enforcement and partnership work.
Police led operations, targeting known areas of drug use and drug dealing, as well as partnership work around known addresses causing drug harm in your area.
Action
Police in the Town Centre and surrounding area continue to focus on targeting known areas of drug use, and areas reported by local residents.
In the last 4 weeks for July over 45 separate patrols have been conducted by our dedicated HotSpot Policing Officers as part of our Safer Street Summer initiative.
During these patrols a number of stop searches have been conducted resulting in positive searches for drugs, along with intelligence reports received by communities whilst on patrol, officers have also disrupted a number of known drug users in the town with arrests being made for drug related offences.
