Operation Downsway / ASB driving

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving.

Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your town safe for all road users.

Officers continue to monitor ASB driving and road related driving offences in your area, with a number of patrols and speed checks deployed over the summer months to address your concerns.

In the coming months further community meetings have been planned in areas of reported ASB, with ward officers committing to additional patrols in areas reported by residents.

End of August meeting in Motcombe, residents raised issues with youngsters trespassing at the swimming pool and noisy motorcycles around Old Town at night, local officers will look to address these raised issues in the coming months, and adjust patrols accordingly to provide presence in reported areas to act as a deterrent and identify those involved.

ASB driving/EScooter use has been a reported issue in the area and raised at previous community meetings, as such ward officers for the area are looking into days of action to target ASB driving including the use of EScooters, and will use powers of seizure in the area to help tackle your concerns.

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes, noisy neighbours, loud music, or noise from public houses or late night venues.

ACTIONS TAKEN PREVIOUSLY JUNE – AUGUST

Officers for your ward continue to conduct daily patrols of your area following an increase of youth related ASB over the Summer holidays.

In addition to recent patrols, ward officers have also held meetings with local residents, one being at the allotments where groups of unknown youngsters have been gaining access and causing ASB and damage. As a result of the meeting officers now have a key to the allotments so that the grounds can be covered during the patrols to identify and deter induvial from entering unlawfully and causing ASB, we hope that these actions will offer some respite to local residents in the area.
