Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes.

Action

ASB continues to be a priority in your ward, with officers committed to continued patrols across the area to deter ASB and identify those involved.

Hotspot areas and targeted patrols include around the Nevill estate and park areas, as well as down into the Ousedale estate, as well as reported ASB down from areas of the old racecourse and along Spital Road.

These patrols follow issues arising from ASB associated with ASB driving, with officers responding to reports over the summer holidays regarding off-road motorbikes in the local estates.

In the last few months, positive results as a result of these additional patrols include the seizure of a number of off road vehicles causing ASB nuisance to local residents, with other riders of off road vehicles such as quads and scooters being issued warnings and words of advice around their driving and the effects of their actions on the wider community.

Officers for Lewes have also attended a number of events throughout the summer, including family days and fetes where officers have been able to update residents directly on the work being conducted in the town to tackle ASB in your, as well as hear first hand from locals about their concerns and highlight areas of ASB to assist officers in their patrol locations to ensure together we are providing a police presence in areas which have seen an increase in ASB.

Issue

Drug Harm Reduction.

Targeting drug related crime in your town through intelligence, enforcement and partnership work.

Police led operations, targeting known areas of drug use and drug dealing, as well as partnership work around known addresses causing drug harm in your area.

Action

Officers continue to conduct high visibility patrols across your town to act as a deterrent and to create an unwelcoming environment for those wishing to conduct criminal activities in relation drug dealing or use.

Over the summer months, officers have been using powers of stop and search, conducting arrests, and issuing a number of community resolutions to those found in possession of illegal substances as part of our continued crackdown on drug related harm in your town.

Areas of patrol include not only in reported areas, but also in areas where officers have seen signs of drug use, such as alleyways and side streets, again aimed at identifying and deterring those involved to help keep your town safe from drug harm.
