Current Priorities
Issue
Business Crime
Supporting local businesses in targeting repeat offenders, and working to reduce business crime through collaborative work, through both increased patrols, and police and partner led operations to tackle business crime, and bring those responsible to justice.
Action
Patrols continue to support local businesses with increased patrols around the West Quay area due to reports of ASB and shoplifting.
Officers for the area continue to visit local shops and businesses in the area to encourage local business to use the DISC app recently launched across the Lewes district offering businesses swifter reporting, access to suspect galleries and a 'shop watch' style chat messaging service linked to other businesses in the area who are registered.
Issue
Operation Downsway
Action taken:
Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.
Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving.
Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your village safe for all road users.
Action
Officers continue to receive reports of driving related offences, namely excess speeding in local areas.
As a result, officers for your ward have committed to a number a number of road patrols in marked cars to act as a deterrent, and to identify those involved.
Work also includes partnership work with Newhaven Town Council and Sussex Police Roads Safety Unit to set up a Community Speedwatch (CSW) for Newhaven, and once this has been completed then local officers will be able to help support the CSW group.
