Current Priorities
Issue
Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.
Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.
Action
ASB continues to be a priority within Seaford town centre, with officers committed to conducting patrols across the town centre to deter ASB and identify those involved.
Hotspot areas and targeted patrols include areas through The Crouch gardens and The Salts as reported areas of regular ASB, officers have conducted over 40 hours of patrols in the last few months (end of July through August) across Seaford Central, with the vast majority of these being on foot with officers engaging with a number of youngsters throughout the summer months.
Officers for Seaford have also attended a number of events throughout the summer, including family days, local football games and fetes where officers have been able to update residents directly on the work being conducted in the town to tackle ASB, as well as hear first hand from locals about their concerns and highlight areas of ASB to assist officers in their patrol locations to ensure together we are providing a police presence in areas which have seen an increase in ASB.
A number of National weeks of action are planned for the Autumn and Winter months, including a National week of ASB awareness which will see officers conduct a number of additional patrols and police activities to target areas of known ASB.
Issue
Scams and frauds, protecting vulnerable and elderly members of your community.
Every year, the British public loses billions of pounds to fraudsters.
It’s very important to keep up to date with the ways fraudsters try to take our money; you may already know some of the tricks they use, but the rise of the internet means new ones are being invented all the time, and huge amounts of money can be taken. Whether it’s dating fraud, banking fraud, identity theft or even people knocking on your door, find out how modern fraud works, what you can do to guard against it and how to report it.
Our Sussex Police website has a library of support and information, as well as useful tips and signs to spot in potential scams and fraud, as well as support for those who may have been a victim.
Action
In the last few months, officers in Seaford have reported receiving a number of reports of scams across your town, with many being reports of rogue traders offering services ranging from gardening, roofing, to doorstop selling or investment opportunities.
Officers continue to work closely with partners, including trading standards, and Action Fraud to not only raise awareness of these types of scams, and the signs to look out for, but also in offering victims support in helping to report incidents to their bank, and conduct visits to victims who are maybe vulnerable or elderly as part of Operation Signature; this includes not only visiting victims but also conducting enquiries such as house to house investigations to obtain CCTV footage of potential suspects to help identify those committing offences of fraud across Seaford.
Seaford officers have visited a number of local groups in the last few months to deliver scam and fraud awareness sessions, these include talks held at a number of care homes, or retirement homes to help educate communities on the latest types of frauds doing the rounds, and help on reporting scams.
Scam talks will be advertised in our ‘events’ tab above which are open to all members of the community to attend.
