Current Priorities

Issue

Business Crime

Supporting local businesses in targeting repeat offenders, and working to reduce business crime through collaborative work, through both increased patrols, and police and partner led operations to tackle business crime, and bring those responsible to justice.

Action

Officers continue to support our local business and shops, in both visiting owners and workers to offer updates on recently reported crime, and in rolling out the newly launched DISC app across areas of Newhaven.

The DISC app which is available to businesses in the area works to offer businesses a swifter reporting system for crime, access to suspect galleries, as well as a 'shop watch' style messaging function which businesses can use to update each other on shoplifters or crimes in the area.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes.

Action

Officers continue to receive reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB), and youth related crime and disorder in areas of Newhaven.

In the last 4 weeks (end of July, first two weeks of August), officers for your wards have conducted over 30 hours of dedicated patrols in areas across Newhaven, including the town centre, Meeching, Denton and into the Valley, with officer patrols averaging at 2 hours each at varying times to help ensure police can offer a presence and reassurance to locals around as many peak hours as possible reported by residents as t the top times for ASB.

Ward officer continue to commit to daily patrols during their shift to identify and deter anti-social behaviour, and are working with our Neighbourhood Youth Officers to visit local schools to speak to youngsters about low level crime and ASB now that the summer holidays have ended.
