Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Action

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to carryout regular patrols, focusing on areas where reports of ASB have been made.
We work closely with partner agencies to tackle this type of behaviour, identify those responsible, and manage persistent offenders and locations. We also continue to carry out intervention work with local schools and youth groups through our dedicated youth officers, to divert any young people who may be involved away from this pattern of behaviour.
We have issued a number of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) to individuals who continue to disrupt communities and will continue to work with local retailers as well as our colleagues in licensing around the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Issue

Retail Crime

Action

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to target persistent offenders and engage with partner agencies and local businesses in order to offer reassurance, support and crime prevention advice. High visibility patrols will continue in locations of concern particularly at times of seasonal demand.
We have issued a number of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) to individuals who continue to offend.

Issue

Illegal/antisocial use of electric scrambler bikes

Action

Patrols will continue to tackle illegal use of these bikes particularly along access routes in and out of the city. Ongoing work to increase awareness around the illegal use of these bikes/e-scooters is taking place and intelligence gathering to identify and disrupt those individuals’ using bikes in the commission of crime continues.

Issue

Drug Related Harm

Action

We continue to engage with the community, patrol, develop and act on intelligence and work in collaboration with drug service providers and outreach programmes to support local people.
Working in partnership with key stakeholders enables us to deter the harm being caused within our community, and patrols continue in areas where drug related activity is reported.
Neighbourhood Youth Officers continue to work with local schools and colleges to raise awareness of drug harm and the risks involved.
Proactive operations involving specialist teams take place regularly to identify, arrest and disrupt persons involved in drugs possession and supply.

Issue

Serious Violence and Knife Crime

Action

We continue to engage with the community, act on intelligence and work in collaboration with Violence Reduction Partnerships and key stakeholders to reduce the risk of serious violence in this area.
We work to identify individuals who are at risk of causing and of being subject to knife enabled harm, taking a joint professional approach to enforcement and safeguarding. Our Op Safety Hotspot team conduct additional patrols in Hotspot areas where serious and violent crime has occurred.
Ongoing work with local schools and colleges to educate students on the risks associated with carrying a weapon continue.

Issue

Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)

Action

We work to support licensed venues in keeping women and girls safe during the nighttime economy, including education around spiking and engagement events with support from specialist organisations.
Ongoing patrols throughout the weekend along with Sussex Police Licensing Teams continue. Operation Marble is a dedicated and targeted approach providing high-visibility patrols in the nighttime economy.
