Current Priorities
Issue
Retail Crime - Shoplifting
Action
There have been reports of shoplifting in the Co Op and NISA stores in the area. PCSO patrols have been increasing in the vicinity and we continue to advise retailers on how to use DISC, the retail crime reporting platform.
Where shoplifting occurs, we continue to encourage reporting incidents to Sussex Police and provide CCTV where possible.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to target persistent offenders, engage with partners and local businesses to offer support, conduct preventative work and patrol areas of concern.
Issue
E-Scooters
Action
PCSO Bicknell has been gathering information from local residents surrounding the continued use of e-scooters in public areas.
In the first instance, we provide an educative approach on the legality of the use of e-scooters in Sussex. Further
Vulnerable road users, including pedal cyclists, are at heightened risk of serious injury or fatality in road collisions.
With cycling promoted as a sustainable mode of transport, Sussex Police prioritises both the safety of cyclists and the enforcement of responsible cycling behaviour.
It is not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters. This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.
If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for having no insurance.
If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.

Issue
Speeding Vehicles
Action
PCSO Robbins regularly engages with local communities and stakeholders to understand to their concerns surrounding anti-social road related issues.
We continue to support and promote force-wide campaigns, targeted operations with specialist units, and road related activity including Operation Downsway deployments.
We also liaise with local Community Speedwatch groups, deploy officers for speed and educational checks, as well as encouraging residents to utilise the Operation Crackdown service for reporting.
