Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Issue

Reports of drug dealing, drugs misuse and cannabis smoking in Stonesfield

Action

We have recently conducted a survey to obtain more information from the community about issues in the area. Drugs (dealing and misuse) was identified as a main concern, and it was suggested that Stonesfield is an area we need to focus upon. We have recently assisted with two large drugs warrants outside but near to our area, during which large quantities of Class A and Class B drugs were seized - with persons being investigated in connection with this. Intercepting and seizing drugs, prosecuting offenders and disrupting the trade is an essential part of tackling this issue. We have also made use of stop search powers, searching and finding personal use quantities and dealing with individuals appropriately - this can involve drug diversion courses. We will be carrying out increased patrols in Stonesfield, and responding to intelligence we receive - so encourage the public to please report incidents of drugs misuse so that we can build a better picture and maximise our opportunities to disrupt, and deal with offenders.

Issue

ASB has been reported within Woodstock, with particular issues in the centre, and by local stores between 3pm and 4pm week days - after children have left school for the day.

There have also been reports of ASB in Stonesfield, especially outside local stores, and in some residential areas. The ASB has taken the form of drugs misuse, anti-social behaviour from teenagers, and vehicle speeding/poor standard of driving.

Action

Within Woodstock, we have engaged with local stores to find out what issues have been occurring, and the times/days of incidents. We have then targeted our patrols to show increased police presence at times/locations affected, and have engaged with youths to explain the need for consideration toward others. We have also liaised with education providers to work together to identify those involved in the ASB. This work will continue, with plans to engage more with the parents to encourage parental interventions to improve behaviours.

We will monitor the issues in Stonesfield with increased police presence, and will be engaging further with the local stores. Our work is very much community-led, so reporting issues when they are happening will really assist us with being able to intervene promptly and identify those responsible.

Issue

Some reports of theft from motor vehicle

Action

We have received some reports of thefts from motor vehicles in recent months - thankfully the level of crime has been low, but this is something that we know concerns our community, and something we wish to reduce even further. We have increased patrols in the affected areas, and made use of signage to warn motorists of thieves operating in the area. We have also identified specific vehicles where valuables have been displayed, and distributed crime prevention leaflets. We continue to monitor the issue, and are engaging with partnerships to discuss and where possible source CCTV cameras to provide further deterrence.
