Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

As per the community survey, local residents continue to specify anti-social behaviour as being one of their top concerns, with most reports coming from the Totteridge and Micklefield area for the East of Wycombe.

Action

The Wycombe East neighbourhood team carry out frequent patrols around areas identified to be most effected by anti-social behaviour. They keep track of these on their hotspot app to ensure all required areas have been covered. The purpose of these patrols are to detect offenders and deter further offending, with the patrols often being tailored around reports they have received. The team will also seek to stop and engage with individuals that are suspected to be causing issues in the area.

Local PCSOs do work to remedy personal anti-social behaviour which means targeted anti-social behaviour against one individual, or neighbourly disputes. They attend addresses, working with the individuals and partner organisations to come up with a resolution.

The Wycombe East team have also been carrying out regular school talks, giving them the opportunity to speak with young people in the area and educate them around anti-social behaviour, helping to prevent them causing issues that can negatively impact their local community and also giving them advice on how they can keep themselves safe in their community.

Issue

As per our community survey, residents have highlighted drug offences as one of their top concerns. Current drug related issues in the Totteridge and Micklefield area include the increasing use of NOS cannisters around the area.

Action

When it comes to suspected drug dealing and drug lines, the team will seek to gather strong intelligence on individuals, addresses and vehicles that could possibly be associated in order to be able to disrupt operations and carry out warrants on addresses.

Another solution the team utilises for drug offences is closure orders. The team will work with partner agencies such as the Council and housing to secure these. This can stop visitors going to an address and in some instances expel the actual resident where necessary. These orders will normally be in place for 3 months and can be extended for a further 3 months if needed. These are effective for both preventing further drug using and drug dealing, and can also allow the team to protect vulnerable people who's homes have been taken over for drug dealing. At the time of writing there are 6 closure orders in Wycombe. The team carry out regular checks to ensure the orders are being obeyed.

NOS (Nitrous Oxide) continues to be on the increase and the team have been raising awareness around the risks as well as working with the Council on issues around rubbish and the issues this is causing in the community. Reports have been received for areas all over Wycombe but it continues to be a prominent issue in the Totteridge area, the team have been responding to those affected and increasing patrols to try and identify perpetrators.

Issue

Speeding continues to be highlighted as a top issue for local residents. Particularly on Amersham Hill, Arnison Avenue and Hatters Lane, residents have raised concerns about high speeds that may possibly endanger others and disturb the community.

Action

Operation Glare is now in progress at High Wycombe. We will listen to concerns from residents about speeding and action this by sending our PCSO’s to analyse vehicles that are reported to speed at mentioned locations. If the data recorded shows that there are issues with spending they will subsequently get officers out to issue tickets.

In April the team focused on Chairborough Rd(29mph), Dashwood Ave (38mph), The Pastures (39mph), Coates Lane (41mph), Hithercorft Road (42mph) and Littleworth Road( 31mph)(Top speed recorded in brackets). The Cressex industrial Estate has also been visited.

After reviewing data, the team will be focusing on the same roads and some new ones, these will include: Totteridge road, Coates Lane, Lane End Road, The pastures, Hicks Farm rise.

To cure the problem of speeding we need members of the public to step up. Whether that is challenging friends or family if they are speeding or starting/joining a community speedwatch scheme. For more information please visit: https://www.communityspeedwatch.org
