Operated by: Thames Valley Police
https://www.thamesvalley.police.ukEvery neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.
Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.
Neighbourhood Policing teams…- Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
- May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
- Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
- Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
- Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
- Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
- Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
- Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.
From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.
We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.
Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.
Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.
Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.
Current Priorities
Issue
Drugs - possession of and drug dealing - Banbury Town Centre and surrounding estates.
Action
JULY UPDATE:
PCSO Noble organised a day of action which saw the whole team dedicate the shift to proactive patrols around those we suspect being involved in the supply of drugs. The operation was primarily targeted around the Town Centre, Bretch Hill and Ruscote areas. A number of stop searches were conducted with Class A drugs seized and offenders dealt with for these offences.
Issue
Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) - to include E-scooters (Grimsbury / Town Centre) and ASB from street drinkers in the Town Centre
Action
JULY UPDATE:
Our 3 month Summer of Action focusing on Town Centres has begun which has seen increased patrols focusing on ASB.
The team have also been focusing on those offenders that have failed to appear at court and ensuring that these wanted on warrant are located and put before the court.
We have also attended a number of Community Events organised by Banbury Town Council. These have been a great opportunity for PCSOs and others to engage with the community whilst offering important crime prevention and safety advice.
Our PCSOs have now been given the power to seize E-Scooters and policy has changed so that if Police do seize an E-Scooter we will no longer be required to return this to the owner. This information has been shared with the public so they know the risks involved if caught riding illegal E-Scooters.
Issue
Speeding / Traffic Offences
Speeding / traffic related offences will remain a priority for the area, as agreed at a Community Forum on the 5th March 2025.
Action
JULY UPDATE:
Fixed / Mobile Safety Camera data has been provided for June showing 516 offences have been caught on camera this month. These will be dealt with by our Fixed Penalty Unit.
The Neighbourhood Team have worked alongside colleagues from Roads Policing on Operation Scalis. Funded by the Motor Insurance Bureau this operation is primarily targetting non insured drivers. The very nature of the op means that we also identify other road traffic related offences. Our day of action in July saw 3 persons arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Fixed penalties were given to those caught driving with a mobile phone as well as seatbelt tickets and vehicles seized for those being driven with no insurance or drivers not holding a licence.
