Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Bicester Town Centre - Anti-social behaviour

Action

The team remain committed to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour and have continued to drive activity in Bicester Town Centre.

The Neighbourhood team since the priority was re-set in January have continued to Conduct High Visibility patrols in the Town centre often supported by our colleagues from the Community Safety Team.

We have utilised the Public Space Protection Order giving several directions to leave P.S.P.O area to prevent further A.S.B.

We continue to have dedicated Night time economy patrols every Friday and Saturday nights, and work closely with the venues and Cherwell Pubwatch.

This area remains a Hotspot patrol area for our team along with members of the Incident and Crime response teams. We use an evidence based approach and target our patrols at the times A.S.B is likely to happen.

We have designated a Police Community Support Officer for the town centre (PCSO Chelsea Thomson) who works tirelessly to support the community and business in the town centre.

PCSO Thomson will be joined by a new member of the team on 14th April 2025 PCSO Jules Smith. We look forward to welcoming her to the team and introducing her to the community in town so please let them know of any issues or concerns in town.

The Community Priorities are due for renewal and an Online Survey is available on our social media page or via Thames Valley Alert. If you feel that this should remain a priority please complete the survey and let us know.

Issue

E-Scooters use

Action

The team have been busy since this priority was set in January and have conducted 3 dedicated E-Scooter operations (1 each month) in addition to our daily patrols.

During these operations the teams have focused on the locations highlighted by the community including Queens Avenue, Bicester Town Centre, Charbridge Lane and Gavray Drive.

E-Scooter warnings and seizures have been carried out by the team during this time.

E-Scooters remain illegal to ride on the public Highway in the UK (With the exception of hire schemes in Pilot areas such as Oxford or Milton Keynes).
E-Scooters should only be used on private land with the land owners permission.

Riders of E-Scooters if stopped not only face having the E-Scooter seized but also being prosecuted for:

- Riding on a footpath/bridleway
- No Insurance
- Using a handheld phone/device while driving
- No licence (Otherwise in accordance with a licence)

The team remain committed to undertaking activity and enforcement in relation to this priority.

The latest Online Community priorities survey is now available on our social media page or via Thames Valley Alert. If you feel that this still remains a priority you would like us to focus on please complete the survey and let us know.

Issue

Drugs

Action

The team continue to target drugs activity both utilising an evidence based approach and pro-active patrols both high-visibility and plain clothed.
This has resulted several person and house searches with Class A and Class B drugs being seized and offenders being charged or receiving Out of Court Resolutions.

We have undertaken a Section 23 Drugs Warrant on a property in Bicester which resulted in drugs and weapons being seized.

We have applied to the court and obtained 2 House Closure Orders in relation to drugs activity at the houses.
We continue to regularly check these houses and have arrested 2 people in breach of the Closure Order to date.

The Community priorities are due for renewal. If you feel that Drugs still remain a high priority please complete our short online survey which is available on our social media page or via Thames Valley Alert.
