Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

E-Bikes in Oxford City Centre, specifically Cornmarket Street and Queen Street riding too fast and causing a danger to members of the public

Action

We have undertaken further operations in the area, though sporadically and are still trying to educate people regards the law on e-bikes. The summer has been very busy for us regards a whole manner of other activities, and we will shortly be commencing a programme of further operations to tackle this issue, working with riders, delivery firms and our colleagues from the roads policing department. This still remains an important issue for us, watch this space for updates

Issue

A recent have your say event has shown that there are concerns in the area of Abingdon Road and adjacent side streets

Action

We held a have your say event in at LAKE STREET COMMUNITY CENTRE on 4th August 2025. Several people attended and have reported that since joint police and council action, things have improved considerably. The closure order we previously put on a local address linked to local issues is still in force and in recent weeks have made a further arrests, and secured court convictions, for the breach of that order. However overall the picture is much better locally and we will be holding a further have your say event in due course to review priorities in the area.

Issue

Recent stakeholder engagement and community interaction has highlighted concerns around drink related ASB and noise nuisance at BONN SQUARE, OXFORD

Action

To date there have been a number of enforcement interactions under the Public Spaces Protection Order in the area. The PSPO states that police officers, including Police Community Support Officers or Council employees may require people to surrender any containers (sealed or unsealed) in order to prevent public nuisance or disorder. It also states that anyone who fails to do so without reasonable excuse commits an offence under the act.
The area has seen some incidents of anti-social behaviour and alcohol related offences in recent weeks. Due to this, a number of arrests have been made and relevant conditions placed on individuals to prevent recurrence. We have undertaken a further concentrated program of patrols at the locality and secured reduction accordingly.
I am also please to state that the team has secured a vast reduction in noise related complaints for the area and will continue to do so. We aim to continue our efforts for all local issues in the area to maintain reduction and public reassurance.
